In the final round of U.S. Open qualifying, it was a heavy American contingent that took up most of the 32 spots in both the men's and women's draws.
Ryan Harrison was the first to win, easily dispatching Henri Laaksonen 6-3, 6-2. Harrison broke immediately for a 2-0 lead, only to see the Swiss break right back, but Harrison broke again to go up 5-2 to close out the set. It was more of the same in the second set as Harrison broke in the first game and got an insurance break for another 5-2 lead before easily holding to close out the dominant win. Jessica Pegula came from a set down to sweep aside 10th seed Risa Ozaki 4-6, 6-0, 6-3. The Japanese broke in the first game of the match and made that advantage stand up before Pegula came roaring back, breaking serve four times in the final two sets.
Christian Harrison joined brother Ryan in the main draw with a come-from-behind win over Canadian Steven Diez, winning 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. This is Christian's main draw debut at Flushing Meadows. Jared Donaldson was superb in outclassing Santiago Giraldo 6-2, 6-2. Donaldson did not drop a set in any of his three qualifying matches. Taylor Townsend outlasted fellow American Jennifer Brady 7-5, 6-4 while CiCi Bellis recorded a 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-2 win over former French Open quarterfinalst Alison Van Uytvanck.
Other notables to win were Laura Robson, Radek Stepanek, Steve Darcis, Aleksandra Krunic and Kristina Kučová.
