World No.81 Frances Tiafoe booked a place in the US Open Round of 16 after easily overcoming Marton Fucsovics 6-2 6-3 6-2. The unseeded American, who came to the spotlight after a classic match against Roger Federer in the 2017 US Open, won the 14th Grand Slam match of his career.

The unseeded American, who overcame John Millman in a highly entertaining affair in the second round, showed no sign of fatigue in his 3rd round match. He was prolific on his first serve, winning almost 90% of his first-serve points. He was only broken once on his serve.

The American came quick out of the blocks and showed no signs of lowering his level as he swept aside the Hungarian in the first set with a score of 6-2. He broke serve twice, including when Fucsovics served to stay in the set, and never gave any chances away to have an initial lead.

The second set followed a similar storyline as the American was able to get a break initially and brought his serves to never allow the 28-year old to come into this service games. The American was able to easily close out the second set to go up 2 sets to love.

In the third set, Fucsovics made inroads in the first service game of Tiafoe by getting it to deuce. However, just like the entire match, the young American won the big points and closed out the service game.

That game was the sucker punch as Tiafoe was able to break the Hungarian serve and then again to go up 4-1. In the 6th game, Tiafoe's serve came under pressure as the Hungarian got 3 break point chances. The 28-year old was able to finally convert to get one of the breaks back.

However, he was unable to impose any pressure due to inconsistencies in his serve. Tiafoe was able to break again to make it 5-2 and quickly served out the match to seal the win.

The American next plays last year's runnerup, Danii Medvedev, for a place to have a chance to play his second Grand Slam quarterfinal.
