Post-match comments
Medvedev on the match: "Confidence was key for me today and winning a Masters 1000 is great for confidence. The second set was easier for both of us to hit winners because we could not run anymore"
On his underarm serve in the second set: "I did not want to disrespect him in any way, that's why I did it at 30-30 not 40-0, my wide serve wasn't working as I would like to"
On his confidence changing since last year: "Yes definitely. After the first set I was exhausted, I'm not going to lie but then I looked across the net and saw he was about to fall over also and that gave me confidence."
Medvedev's keys to victory
Medvedev kept very solid on his serve, getting 67% of his first serves in and winning 74% of those points. Zverev also definitely helped him with winning only 21% of his second serve points, including seven double faults. Medvedev also moved incredibly well and can definitely trouble Djokovic in his next match.
Daniil Medvedev wins 6-3 6-4!
No nerves for Medvedev in the final game as he holds to love, finishing the match with a jumping backhand winner. This is his second win over Zverev in the past eight days, his first win in London after going winless last year.
Medvedev* 6-3 5-4 Zverev
Zverev faced a potentially tricky situation at 30-30 after he missed his backhand, he got an unreturned serve to go up 40-30, but the game went into a deuce. He won the game with the first advantage after a forehand error from Medvedev, who would serve for the match next.
Medvedev 6-3 5-3 *Zverev
Medvedev holds and Zverev will have to serve to stay in the match next.
Medvedev* 6-3 4-3 Zverev
We finally see the first break points of the set in the Tilden game as Zverev went down 15-40 after a 27-shot rally. Medvedev wasted the first one with a forehand error, but after an error from Zverev, Medvedev takes the break in the second set.
Medvedev 6-3 3-3 *Zverev
Medvedev got a little bit of pressure on his serve of the first time this set, but held.
Medvedev* 6-3 2-3 Zverev
Zverev was a little under pressure at 15-30, but holds after one deuce.
Medvedev 6-3 2-2 *Zverev
A strong hold from Medvedev and we are yet to see a break in this second set.
Medvedev* 6-3 1-2 Zverev
Zverev started the game with a double fault, looking more like his first set self, going down 0-30 after a long forehand. The German then turned it around, winning the next four points and the game with after a forced error from Medvedev.
Medvedev 6-3 1-1 *Zverev
A hold to love from Medvedev as a response, finishing it with an ace.
Medvedev* 6-3 0-1 Zverev
A nice and easy hold from Zverev to start the second set. If his last two service games are a sign of things to come, we could have a much closer second set.
Medvedev wins the first set 6-3!
Medvedev holds to love, finishing the first set with his first ace of the match. The key for Medvedev so far has been solid serving and great court coverage. Zverev has been struggling with his second serve, winning only 15% of his points after missing the first, serving six double faults as well.
Medvedev* 5-3 Zverev
Zverev got his first solid hold of the match, Medvedev will now try to serve it out.
Medvedev 5-2 *Zverev
Medvedev held solid on his serve, ending the game with a rocket of a forehand down the line at 40-30. Zverev will now serve to stay in the set.
Medvedev* 4-2 Zverev
Zverev once again went down 15-40 on his serve, managing to save the first with a big serve and the second with a brilliant half-volley drop shot. Medvedev got a third opportunity, but his forehand sailed long and the game went back to deuce. Medvedev pulled out an incredible topspin forehand after a drop shot to take away Zverev's first game point. Zverev ended the game with his sixth double fault and Medvedev takes the break.
Medvedev 3-2 *Zverev
Medvedev gave us yet another game going to deuce after not converting either of his two break points, but he won it on the first advantage after Zverev's backhand went long.
Medvedev* 2-2 Zverev
At 15-30, we saw the first longer rally where it was Zverev stepping in and being aggressive, but Medvedev persisted and got two break points. He failed to take both, both points lost after forehand unforced errors. Zverev then got a game point that he failed to take, but closed the game out with his second opportunity, a nice serve and volley.
Medvedev 2-1 *Zverev
Medvedev hit a terrible forehand unforced error to give Zverev two break points at 15-40 but the German failed to take either one. After another missed forehand, Zverev got another look but Medvedev saved it after an incredible 29-shot rally that would have had the crowd on their feet. Then came a fourth break point for Zverev but he didn't convert that one either. The next forehand of Medvedev did not cross the net, giving the No. 5 player his fifth break point in this game but Medvedev once again got himself out of trouble after a well-constructed point which he finished with an overhead smash. The Russian got his first game point after chasing down a drop shot and converted it with an unreturned serve, the first service hold of the match.
Medvedev* 1-1 Zverev
Zverev went up 30-0 in his first service game, but then served three double faults in a row to offer up a break point to Medvedev which he gladly took. Not a great start from Medvedev, but far poorer from Zverev, who came close to missing eight serves in a row.
Medvedev 0-1 *Zverev
Medvedev won the first point of the match with an unreturned serve, the second goes to Zverev after a lengthy backhand-to-backhand rally. The Russian got lucky to go up 30-15 as his shot after chasing down a drop shot would have gone long, but took a deflection off Zverev's racquet at the net. Zverev won the next two points and got a break point, taking the opening game after a Medvedev doubles fault.

When to watch Medvedev vs Zverev Live
The round-robin match between Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev will begin at 8pm local time, 3pm ET, and 12pm PT.
Venue
The O2 Arena in London is hosting the ATP Finals for the final time this year, unfortunately with no fans attending due to COVID-19, though the arena usually holds 20,000. The O2 has been an ATP Finals stalwart, hosting the event since 2009. The event will move to Turin next year, where it will stay for the next five years.
Zverev's ranking impact
Alexander Zverev won two round-robin matches and then lost in the semifinals, meaning that he stands to gain 1100 points in London this year. If he goes undefeated, Zverev would overtake Tsitsipas at No. 6 (depending on the Greek's results) and get within five points of taking the No. 5 spot from Roger Federer.
Medvedev's ranking impact
Last year at the ATP Finals, Medvedev failed to win a single match, meaning that if he were to win the tournament undefeated, he would gain the full 1500 points. Of course, due to COVID, no one will be losing points, but this still helps Medvedev massively. It cuts down the point difference between himself and Thiem at No. 3 from 2155 points to 655 points, getting the Russian much closer to his new career-high ranking.
Betting odds
Bet365 lists Medvedev as the slight 4/6 favorite to defeat Zverev, giving him a 60% chance to Zverev's 40%. Even the bookmakers believe this match will be close.
Head to head
Alexander Zverev leads the head-to-head over Daniil Medvedev 5-2, their first meeting being all the way back in 2013 at the Prato Grade 2 Junior event in Italy. Medvedev, however, won their most recent meeting two weeks ago in Paris and leads the head to head in the last two season 2-1.
Group Tokyo 1970
The two other players joining Medvedev and Zverev in Group Tokyo 1970 are Novak Djokovic and Diego Schwartzman. In case of injury, Berrettini and Shapovalov will also be involved.
Zverev's current form
The 2018 champion Alexander Zverev has had great form in the post-RG indoor hard court swing. The German won both of the tournaments in Cologne and lost in the final of Paris-Bercy, winning 12 out of his last 13 matches.
Medvedev's current form
The World No. 4 Daniil Medvedev is coming into London with a winning streak, taking the title in Paris-Bercy. En route to his third Masters 1000 triumph, the Russian defeated Schwartzman, Raonic, and his upcoming opponent Alexander Zverev in the final.
