Canada's sweetheart Eugenie Bouchard is coming into the Australian Open feeling pretty good. Her 2016 season is already much more successful than her 2015 was but can she continue her success this season against a dangerous first round opponent in Aleksandra Krunic? Let's take a look at their notable results as well what to expect in their match.

Bouchard's Notable Slam Results And 2015 Season

Coming off of a breakout 2014 in which she advanced to the semifinals or better in three of the four majors (including the Wimbledon final), Bouchard had a disappointing 2015 to say the least. She reached the Australian Open quarterfinals, where she was routed by Maria Sharapova, winning only five games. Her French Open was over in the 1st Round, getting dumped out by Kristina Mladenovic. At Wimbledon, she also lost in the opening round, stunned by Chinese qualifier Ying-Ying Duan.

She recovered to reach the Round of 16 at the U.S. Open, firing Sam Sumyk and hiring Jimmy Connors before the event began on a one tournament basis. She won a tough three set match - Dominika Cibulkova along the way before being forced to withdraw prior to her fourth round match - eventual runner-up Roberta Vinci with a concussion. She tried to play in Beijing, but retired mid-match - Andrea Petkovic and her season was over. The Canadian lost 11 times in her first match of tournaments (some tournaments she received a bye in the 1st round). She also failed to defend her title in Nuremberg. 2016 has started well for Bouchard, reaching the finals of Hobart losing to Alizé Cornet.

Krunic's Notable Slam Results And 2015 Season

Krunic also put her name on the map in 2014, reaching the 4th Round of the U.S. Open as a qualifier, stunning Madison Keys and Petra Kvitova before losing to Victoria Azarenka. Her only wins in majors in 2015 were over Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci, both at Wimbledon before losing in the third round to Venus Williams. Otherwise, the Serb fell in the first round of the other three Slams. Lauren Davis straight-setted her at the Australian Open, Yulia Putintseva won a close three-setter at the French Open, and Danka Kovinic rallied past her at the U.S. Open. Krunic's best performance of the year were three quarterfinals at Shenzhen, Bucharest and Linz, losing to Simona Halep, Polona Hercog and Mona Barthel respectively. She reached her career high ranking of 62 in July 2015.

What to expect

Both players have decent power, so whoever can keep their unforced error count is likely to win this match. Bouchard has a slightly better serve while Krunic is a slick, athletic mover.

Prediction: Bouchard in two tight sets. Her Hobart run shows she is on the right track and while a Krunic win wouldn't be shocking, she is too inconsistent at the moment for me to pick her.
