Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is the first top-10 player to announce himself at this year's Millennium Estoril Open. 

Jo-Wilfried is currently the fifth player to be confirmed for the Estoril Open in May, but only the first top-10 in the tournament as of yet. He first played Estoril in 2011, where he made it to the second round as a wildcard losing to Pablo Cuevas 6-2, 7-6 (0). He is still looking for his first ATP Clay title. 

Tsonga currently has 12 singles titles to his name and held the number five spot in 2012, Tsonga awakened to the world of tennis when he reached the final of the Australian Open in 2008 and since then has been one of greatest representatives of the French team. 

The name of the "Musketeer" was announced on Monday via their Facebook page. 

Estoril Open announced players

Nick Kyrgios was the first player to be announced for this year's competition, he returns in a chance to go one better than last year, where he lost out to Richard Gasquet in the final. Joining Nick is home favorite Joao Sousa, who grew up in Portugal, Guimaraes three and a half away hours away and Gilles Simon and Borna Coric were announced as of recently. Gilles best result was the quarterfinals in 2009 and 2011, the two times he has played this event, while Borna in his debut lost in the quarterfinals to Guilermo Garcia-Lopez 6-3, 7-6 (4). The line-up so far consists of players from only inside the top-40, which is gearing up to be a great tournament. 

Tournament history

The Portugal Open, formerly named Estoril Open was an ATP and WTA clay court tennis tournament in Portugal. The event took place at the sports complex of Jamor in Oeiras, of which Estoril Court Central is the most prominent show court. In 2015, the tournament was canceled due to lack of sponsorship. A new tournament, Millennium Estoril Open, organized by former Dutch tennis player Benno van Veggel and Portuguese football agent Jorge Mendes, was created in its place, moving from Oeiras to Cascais. The 2014 Portugal Open was the last edition.

Estoril ushers in a new era in 2015, with a new ATP World Tour 250 clay-court tournament at the Clube de Ténis do Estoril. The Millennium Estoril Open secures the future of a Portuguese tournament on the ATP World Tour calendar, a tradition since the Tour’s inception in 1990. In partnership with the Municipality of Cascais, the tournament will see fans enjoy greater proximity to the players and the action on court.

Statistically, the men's tournament highlights the dominance of Argentine and Spanish male players on red clay. Between 1990 and 2001, at least one Spaniard appeared in the final ten times, with a player from Spain claiming the title in nine of those twelve years. The Spanish dominance waned in recent years. Since 2001, there have only been three Spaniards in four finals with two victories. Between 2002 and 2006, an Argentine made the final at Estoril, winning four of these five titles. The Argentine streak returned in 2011 with the first of three more victories in four years.

Only one Portuguese player has reached the final in either the men's or the women's event: Frederico Gil, the losing men's finalist in 2010.
