One more day full of tennis at the Millennium Estoril Open, and the Portuguese crowd showed up massively to watch their home player and fourth seed, João Sousa.

Court Millennium

The first match of the day was between the Japanese, Taro Daniel and the Spanish eighth seed, Pablo Carreno Busta. The world number 50 defeated the Asian in two tight sets 6-4, 7-5. At the end of the match, Pablo Carreno Busta said: "I'm so happy. I know Taro is a very tough opponent, I tried to be aggressive today." He also talked about Taro Daniel being so good on clay although he is Japanese: "I know Taro Daniel practices in Valencia so he is like a Spanish player, he practices every day on clay."

The second match opposed the local player, João Sousa and the former world number nine, Nicolas Almagro, that is now ranked 71st on ATP. The Spaniard won 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Gilles Simon stepped the court for the first match of the night session against his compatriot Paul-Henri Mathieu. In a very interesting match, the highest ranked player and first seed took the win 3-6, 6-2, 6-1. Gilles Simon talked about the match: "In the beginning he was controlling the game, and I was playing too slow giving him a bit too much space and then he was executing his tennis in a very good way, also hitting the lines but in general he was controlling the game and then I was able to play faster and it became a lot harder for him."

To close the day and the night session there was a clash between two clay experts, Paolo Lorenzi and Leonardo Mayer. The Argentine won in two tough sets 7-6(5), 6-4. Mayer also talked about the match moments after his win: "I think it was a tough match, played at night what made the game slower."

Court Cascais

On Court Cascais there were only three doubles matches. 

Jonathan Erlich/Colin Fleming lost to Borna Coric/Franko Skugor 6-4, 6-4 and the Croat team is in the semifinals.

Treat Huey/Max Mirnyi defeated the team contemplated with a wildcard Kyle Edmund/Frederico Ferreira Silva 6-4, 6-4.

Top seeds Lukasz Kubot/Marcin Matkowski pulled out the local team João Sousa/Gastão Elias in a very exciting and disputed battle. The match ended 3-6, 6-3, 10-7. After this doubles match, the Portuguese team talked to the press: "In a tennis match, the match can be in total control and then with a ball or another, the control can be lost and that was what happened."

"We were playing at a very high level and we had huge chances to win but we always knew that with just one ball this could've change and that happened," added the team.

Court 3

There was only one match played on Court 3, with Pablo Carreno Busta/Inigo Cervantes losing to fourth seeds Scott Lipsky/Eric Butorac 6-3, 6-1.
