Two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka has unfortunately had to withdraw from Wimbledon, as her injury woes continue as she has failed to recover from a knee injury, that she sustained in her first round match at the French Open against Italy's Karin Knapp.
Wimbledon announced the breaking news on their Twitter page, "Victoria Azarenka has withdrawn from #Wimbledon due to a knee injury. Get well soon @vika7"
Revised seedings
Azarenka, a two-time semifinalist at Wimbledon in 2011 and 2012, reached the quarterfinals last year losing to eventual champion Serena Williams, was scheduled to be seeded sixth.
With her withdrawal, there has been a shift in the seedings as , five-time champion Venus Williams will now be seeded eighth, Britain's Johanna Konta seeded at a slam for the second time in her career moves up to 16th and Germany's Andrea Petkovic will now be seeded 32nd.
Unfortunate Azarenka
It's disappointing news for Azarenka, as she has been one of the form players of the 2016 campaign and it will be another setback for her as the Belarusian clawed her way firmly back into the top ten of the WTA rankings.
The former world number one reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open earlier this year losing to eventual champion Angelique Kerber.
In March and April, the Belarusian completed the Sunshine Double at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells defeating Serena Williams and Svetlana Kuznetsova in the final of the Miami Open.
Before Azarenka had a knee injury, she was plagued with a back problem that forced her to withdraw from her third round match at the Mutua Madrid Open and wasn't fully recovered at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome.
Wimbledon have already lost former two-time champion Rafael Nadal coupled with Azarenka's withdrawal will be a blow to the tournament.
Azarenka will hopefully be recovered in time for the Olympic Games in Rio and the US Open.
