The automatic entry list for the BGL Luxembourg Open, the final event on the WTA Tour before the WTA Finals and the WTA Elite Trophy, has been confirmed, with Petra Kvitova and Caroline Wozniacki the most notable entrants.

Both, particularly Kvitova, could make the WTA Elite Trophy, and may be using the tournament as one final push to try and make it. Other notable names in action include Eugenie Bouchard, and defending champion Misaki Doi.

Notable names in action

Wozniacki and Kvitova are by far the most notable names in action, with the latter the highest-ranked player entered in the draw.

The two-time Wimbledon champion has struggled this season, and will be looking to end her season on a high. Meanwhile, Wozniacki has also struggled badly this year, but has been in encouraging form of late and will look to regain the title she won in 2013.

Bouchard, a former Grand Slam finalist, will be looking for a strong finish to the season after another mixed year, whilst Doi will be looking to end a relatively strong season with a successful defense of her title; the Japanese beat the likes of Andrea Petkovic and Jelena Jankovic before battling past Mona Barthel in the final in 2015.

Petkovic also returns after a fairly disappointing season by her standards, whilst fellow German and 2014 champion Annika Beck will also be in action. Furthermore, Germans Sabine Lisicki (finalist in 2009) and Laura Siegemund, who has had a breakthrough season, will be in action. Another breakthrough star of 2016, Kiki Bertens, will be in action, as will two-time finalist Monica Niculescu.

Other players set to play

Currently set to be seeded are Caroline Garcia and Yanina Wickmayer; both women are extremely erratic, but could be a threat for the title.

Americans Madison Brengle and Varvara Lepchenko are both set to be in action, as are former Wimbledon semifinalists Tsvetana Pironkova and Kirsten Flipkens. Young stars Anna-Lena Friedsam, Viktorija Golubic, and Anna Karolina Schmiedlova are also set to be in action.

Johanna Larsson, Pauline Parmentier, Su-Wei Hsieh, and Sorana Cirstea complete the entry list.
