For years Jim Ross was the voice of WWE as partnered next to Jerry "The King" Lawler his patented "Oh My God" became synonymous with the action packed entertainment on Monday Night Raw.

Nowadays the 64-year-old has taken a back step from the world of wrestling and is less heavily involved with Vince McMahon as his devotion is now with New Japan Pro Wrestlinged through AXS TV.

The BBQ sauce enthusiast is also a prominent critic of wrestling and shares his views at his blog: JRsBarBQ.com and he took to the website to share his thoughts on Dolph Ziggler's win and also the decision to have AJ Styles take the fall.

Dolph Ziggler Push

JR like many others were shocked to see such a surprise victory be in the main event of SmackDown Live but in a world of predictability it was a welcomed one.

Ziggler pinned AJ Styles to become the no.1 contender for Dean Ambrose's WWE Championship at SummerSlam and the veteran announcer offers his thoughts on the decision.

He said "Unlike many, I had no issue with Dolph Ziggler earning a shot at Dean Ambrose’s WWE Title at Summer Slam. Was Ziggler primed and ready for the #1 contender role? Obviously, not but fans have been clamoring for Dolph to be put in the game and there is no doubt that Ziggler and Ambrose will have a superb main event level bout in Brooklyn."

While some fans still retain reservations that The Showoff can cut it in the main event his track record over the past few years speaks for itself.

Ziggler has in his WWE career amassed an impressive: two World Heavyweight Championships, one World Tag-Team Championship, four Intercontinental Championships, one United States Championship and also the Money in the Bank in 2012.

Ross believes that he has all the ingredients needed to make the SummerSlam match with The Lunatic Fringe a delicious bout as he said "While I respect the opinion of others, unlike many keyboard warriors, I submit Ziggler is a favorite of many fans who can deliver a great bout and who can have his TV persona enhanced in the next couple of weeks."

AJ Styles takes the fall

Despite feeling like the SmackDown main event was an overall success with Ziggler picking up the victory, it seemed as though the legendary commentator was not a fan of AJ Styles being the superstar to be pinned.

In a match that, in the beginning, saw just three performers able to be believable winners in Bray Wyatt, John Cena and AJ Styles, the remaining three in Apollo Crews, Baron Corbin and Ziggler were not expected to be much of a threat but the six-pack match remained an evenly fought affair throughout.

Eventually it would be The Phenomenal One who would fall victim to Ziggler who defeated him with a superkick and Ross was left confused by this decision.

He said "Not sure why WWE selected AJ Styles to lose the fall in the SmackDown main event. Arguments can be made either way but beating AJ would not have been the way I would have gone based on what little I know about the lay of the WWE/SD landscape."

Despite many critics clamoring for the former Bullet Club front man to have picked up the win Ross maintains he will not be kept up at night by the ending.

He said "However, unlike some others who cover the biz, I likely won’t lose any sleep over it one way or another."

On Finn Balor debut

Away from the world of the blue brand Ross "enjoyed" the debut of the former NXT star Finn Balor who defeated Cesaro, Kevin Owens and Rusev in a fatal four way before beating Roman Reigns later in the night.

After The Demon pinned the former Shield member he became the no.1 contender for the WWE Universal Championship and he will square off against Seth Rollins for the title at SummerSlam.

On the 35-year-old's debut Ross said "Enjoyed the way WWE debuted newcomer Finn Balor who made a remarkable impact on this first night on RAW. The way Balor was introduced reminded me of the way Bill Watts introduced some key talents on Mid South Wrestling back in the day. There is no reason that Balor and Rollins should not ’t have a helluva performance at Summer Slam even though Balor is a newbie to many WWE fans who all don’t watch NXT."
