England have confirmed their place as 2016 World T20 semi-finalists, after a 10 run victory against Sri Lanka in Dehli assured them of qualification from the Super 10 stage.
Trevor Bayliss' side won three consecutive matches after losing their first, taking them to a total of six points, which can only be matched by the West Indies, who have already been confirmed as the other Group 1 semi-finalist.
England bounce back after opening defeat
It all looked rather gloomy at one point for England, after being soundly beaten by Chris Gayle's men in their first game, conceded a massive 229-4 against South Africa. However, Joe Root's sensational knock helped them chase that total down, before a victory over Afghanistan set up a do-or-die clash with Sri Lanka on Saturday.
Jos Buttler's wizardry helped England to a score of 172-4, one that they defended well for the most part, eventually restricting Sri Lanka to 161-8 from their 20 overs.
Due to having been beaten by the West Indies, who have won three from three so far, in their first game, it looks like England will have to settle for second place in the group. That will only change if Afghanistan record a very large, unlikely, victory over the West Indians on Sunday morning.
New Zealand likely to be next up
If, and when, it's confirmed that England are to finish second in the group, they'll be set to play New Zealand in the semi-finals, in Dehli next Wednesday. The Black Caps are sure to prove a tough test, having won all four of their group games, seeing off the likes of India and Australia.
That pair, India and Australia, compete tomorrow for the final semi final place, both tied on four points as they battle to come second to New Zealand in Group 2. Were Australia to go through, it'd mean there were no sub-continent teams in the semi-finals, something that comes as great surprise, considering India are the hosts.
