Thanks for joining us here at VAVEL UK for this live ball by ball coverage of this T20 International. I've been Tom Simmonds and I hope you can join us again for our coverage of the Pakistan series.

For England, the focus now switches to red ball cricket as they prepare to face the touring Pakistan side, with the first test starting on the 14th of July at Lords.

This loss caps off a terrible tour for Sri Lanka who didn't taste victory once across all three formats in England. They were comprehensibly beaten in most games, with only the tied ODI at Trent Bridge coming to mind as a match were Sri Lanka really should have won.

The Sri Lankans started well as they removed Jason Roy and James Vince cheaply, they couldn't keep the pressure up though and England cruised to victory. It will be a good learning experience for Sri Lanka's young team.

The England new boys were fantastic and looked completely at ease in the international arena. Liam Dawson, in particular, took the headlines, the off-spinner was making his debut on his home ground and announced himself in style. Controlling his line and length well he took three wickets and bowled in a perfect partnership with Adil Rashid to put the squeeze on the Sri Lankan batsmen in the crucial middle overs.

A near perfect performance from England here, they bowled excellently to restrict Sri Lana to just 140. Then the batsmen took over, Buttler took advantage of his move up the order and top scored with a career-best 73* with able support from captain Morgan who finished 47*.

ENGLAND WIN BY 8 WICKETS

SIX! Morgan hammers Prasanna into the stands and England finally end a miserable tour for Sri Lanka.

OVERS 17: ENG 137-2 This has been a cruise for England, a small wobble at the start, but Buttler and Morgan have carried England all the way. 4 needed to win.

OVERS 16: ENG 131-2  England are simply running Sri Lanka into the ground now, Buttler and Morgan don't seem remotely worried by the Sri Lankan bowling attack. 10 needed to win now.

Career best score now for Jos Buttler in T20I - 68*

SIX! A fourth six now for Jos Buttler. He's really enjoying this now, smashing the spinner back down the ground.

Rambukwella comes back into the attack now.

OVERS 15: ENG 120-2 These two are really walking home now, they look comfortable and are running with no real pressure from the field. Just 21 needed to win now.

FOUR! Four wides here. leg-side delivery missed by Morgan and Chandimal and it races away for four.

Maharoof into the attack.

OVERS 14: ENG 108-2 A good response from Mathew's after the early boundary from Buttler. Coaxes Morgan into a charge and the England skipper badly mistimes it. Morgan is lucky to watch it fall safely into a gap. 10 runs coming from the over.

FOUR! Beautifully timed drive from Buttler, picked the line and length early and just eased it through the gap for four.

The skipper, Mathews, comes back into the attack.

OVERS 13: ENG 98-2 These two are looking to accelerate here and Bandara has paid the price, Buttler and Morgan have picked him up well and 11 runs came off that over.

FOUR!  A controlled pull shot from Morgan, it's in the air for a while but he finds the gap well, one bounce and it hits the rope.

FIFTY! Buttler is making great use of this opportunity at the top of the innings and brings up his half-century off just 34 deliveries. He's providing the anchor here for England.

Chaminda Bandara replaces Prasanna.

OVERS 12: ENG 87-2 After losing early wickets, England are looking really comfortable here now. Morgan and Buttler have brought up their fifty partnership and now appear to be cruising to a victory.

DROP! A much harder chance this one, Morgan cuts Pradeep powerfully in the air and the fielder at backward point can only get a hand to it, would have been a stunner had he held it.

OVERS 11: ENG 79-2 England needed the big over and they have got it here. Big shots from Buttler and Morgan have ruined Prasanna's figure as England score 13 runs from his six deliveries.

FOUR! A really powerful shot from Buttler, he uses his bottom hand extremely well and nails the leg-spinner through the covers for four.

SIX! Eoin Morgan isn't content with knocking the spinner around anymore and this time charges the spinner and hammers him miles back into the stands.

OVERS 10: ENG 66-2 Well bowled from Pradeep keeping the England batsmen quiet. Deceived Buttler well with the slower ball a couple of times. Just four runs from the over.

Nuwan Pradeep comes onto bowl, Mathews deciding to move away from spin.

OVERS 9: ENG 62-2 Prasanna is bowling well here and should have a wicket, still England are rotating the strike nicely and took 6 runs from that over.

DROP! Morgan goes for his reverse sweep and it's hit hard but it's still a catch you would expect to be taken. Angelo Mathews looks disappointed with himself for that effort.

OVERS 8: ENG 56-2 A better over for England as they start to look more in control here, negotiating the off-spinner well, including that huge six. 9 from the over.

SIX! A massive hit from Buttler! Charges down the pitch to the offspinner and smacks him back over his head for a big six, that's gone a long way.

Gunathilaka comes on to bowl.

OVERS 7: ENG 47-2 Good bowling in that over from Prasanna, limiting the England batsmen to singles only. 6 runs from that over.

Prasanna comes into the attack.

OVERS 6: ENG 41-2 England needed a good over and they got it here, some good running and the big shot from Buttler gives England 10 runs from the over. The powerplay, however, belongs to Sri Lanka.

SIX! A fantastic pump over the top from Buttler. Held his shape well, didn't overhit and just caressed the ball over long off for a much needed six.

OVERS 5: ENG 31-2 An expensive over for Sri Lanka, crucially though Mathews picked up his second wicket and removed the well-set Vince.

Eoin Morgan the new man in.

WICKET! Great work from Chandimal, the ball ricochets between pad and bat, but Chandimal is aware and takes a good stumping to remove Vince. Vince st. Chandimal b. Mathews 16 (14)

FOUR! Another pull shot, this time from Vince. He controls the shot well and picks the gap.

SIX! Short from Mathews and Buttler has really picked that up. The wicketkeeper-batsman has absolutely nailed that and it has gone a very long way into the stands.

OVERS 4: ENG 19-1 The lack of pace in this Sri Lankan attack is really hurting England, both Buttler and Vince struggling to time the ball. In contrast to the ODI series, the bowlers are being well backed up by the fielders. Just 4 from that over.

Maharoof replaces Rambukwella.

OVERS 3: ENG 15-1 Another excellent over from Mathews. He should have had Buttler back in the shed, a clear edge that wasn't given on the field. Just three runs from that over.

OVERS 2: ENG 12-1 A good over for England that, the bad ball is hit to the boundary while the good balls are nurdled around to keep the strike rotating. 9 from the over.

FOUR! A loosener from Rambukwella and Vince doesn't miss out, it's way down the leg side and Vince sweeps well.

Rambukwella will open with right arm off spin at the other end.

OVERS 1: ENG 3-1 The perfect start for Sri Lanka as Mathews removes the dangerous Roy who was so successful against them in the ODI series.

James Vince comes in at number three.

WICKET! Roy is gone early, he shuffled across his stumps and tried to ramp Mathews over his shoulder, misses and is bowled round his legs, a dream start for Sri Lanka. Roy b. Mathews 0 (3)

Angelo Mathews will open the bowling for Sri Lanka.

Jos Buttler and Jason Roy to open, here they come.

ENGLAND 2ND INNINGS

An update on Eoin Morgan's injury. England Cricket has confirmed on Twitter that he has a dislocated left fourth finger but he will bat as normal.

England will really fancy this win now. 140 seems to be well below par and England are playing with a very long tail. If Jos Buttler and Jason Roy get going at the top of this innings there is every chance this game could be over very quickly.

A great bowling performance from England. Liam Dawson bowled fantastically on his debut as he took 3 wickets and Jordan ended the innings spectacularly with his expert death bowling. There was no real innings of substance to mention from the Sri Lankan batsmen. Gunathilaka top scored with 26 runs from 16 deliveries.

INNINGS END SRI LANKA 140 ALL OUT, ENGLAND NEED 141 TO WIN

OVERS 20: SL 140 A fantastic death over from Jordan, he never allowed the batsmen any room to swing and concedes just 2 runs for 2 wickets. He finishes with figures of 4 overs 3-29.

WICKET! Jordan finishes off the innings with a perfect yorker and Pradeep couldn't play it first up, he's bowled and Sri Lanka are 144 all out from their 20 overs. Pradeep b. Jordan 0 (1)

WICKET! Maharoof goes for the big shot, but can only slog out to David Willey, on the field due to Morgan's injury, it's a good catch it was hit very hard at him. Maharoof c Sub b Jordan 10 (16)

Jordan will bowl the final over, Sri Lanka will be looking to reach 150 here.

OVERS 19: SL 138-8 A great final over from Liam Plunkett, just singles and dots conceded, could have had another wicket but one dropped just short of Jason Roy, just five from the over. The pace bowler finishes with figures of four overs 2-27

OVERS 18: SL 133-8 England's fielders are aiming at the stumps every time they get the ball here, and rightly so Sri Lanka's running has been awful. A good over from Jordan though just 5 runs coming off it.

Bandara the new man in.

WICKET! Chandimal lobs a simple catch to Eoin Morgan, the England captain has gone straight off, though, he's clearly hurt his finger taking that  catch. Chandimal c.Morgan b. Jordan 23(22)

Jordan comes in to bowl the death overs.

OVERS 17: SL 128-7 It's a good debut for Mills, he may not have gotten a wicket but he has bowled fantastically. He ends with figures of four overs 0-22. Just 6 from that over.

FOUR! Chandimal uses the extra pace of Mills and cuts him away very well for four, just too wide from Mills.

OVERS 16: SL 122-7  A slightly expensive over from Plunkett but more importantly he got the wicket of the dangerous Prasanna.

Maharoof the new man in.

WICKET! A second wicket for Liam Plunkett, extra bounce and movement finds Prasanna's edge and is a comfortable catch for Jos Buttler. Prasanna c. Buttler b. Plunkett 1 (3).

FOUR! Plunkett gets his next delivery too straight and Chandimal flicks off his pads for four leg-byes.

SIX! A glorious shot from Chandimal, advances to meet Plunkett and slams him over long off for six.

Liam Plunkett into the attack.

OVERS 15: SL 109-6 Some more excellent pace variations from Mills, easily going between 90+ and 60 mph. It has to be said Sri Lanka's running has bordered on suicidal tonight, could easily be another wicket down. Four from the over.

WICKET! Another direct hit from England, this time, its James Vince with the throw to break the partnership. Rambukwella run out (Vince) 19 (16)

Tymal Mills comes back into the attack, England's pacemen need to deliver after the spinners have done their job fantastically.

OVERS 14: SL 105-5 A slightly poor final over from Rashid there as he goes for 14 runs, the leg spinner ends with fantastically economical figures of four overs 0-25.

FOUR! Rashid goes for the googly and Rambukwella doesn't get a hold of it but his pure strength forces it to the boundary for four.

SIX! Too full from Rashid and Rambukwella hammers him over long on.

OVERS 13: SL 91-5 England's spinners are all over the Sri Lankan batsmen here. Dawson could easily have had another couple of wickets. An excellent debut nonetheless and he finishes his 4 overs with figures of 3-27

Dawson on to bowl his final over.

OVERS 12: SL 84-5 Not one to be outdone, Rashid now takes the spotlight. Used his variations fantastically. A maiden over from Rashid as the only single comes via a leg bye.

OVERS 11: SL 83-5 A fantastic over from Dawson, the new lad is looking special here. Fantastic control over his flight and length. Two wickets and just four runs from the over.

Rambukwella is the new batsman.

WICKET! Roy with a fantastic throw and Shanaka isn't even close to making it back for the second run. More misery for Sri Lanka with run-outs. Shanaka run out (Roy/Buttler) 1 (1)

Dasun Shanaka is the new batsman at the crease.

WICKET! A horrible shot from captain Mathews, he goes for a big heave leg-side. He misses, Dawson doesn't and the ball crashes into middle stump. What an evening he is having, he now has 3 wickets on debut. Mathews b. Dawson 11 (10)

OVERS 10: SL 79-3 Good control of his pace and length here from Rashid, a strange appeal at the end, both umpires and the bowler unsure whether the appeal was for a catch or stumping, both not out and we move on.

OVERS 9: SL 75-3 Another good over from Dawson on debut, went for 8 runs but got the crucial wicket of Mendis.

WICKET! Mendis chips one back to the bowler and Dawson takes a good catch. The dip and flight from Dawson completely deceived Mendis and he really didn't know what to do once he had charged. Mendis c. and b. Dawson 21(16)

FOUR! The reverse sweep from Mathews beat the man at short fine leg and it runs away four a boundary.

OVERS 8: SL 67-2 A good first over from Rashid, but Sri Lanka are running well, they take 8 runs from Adil Rashid's first six.

Spin at both ends now as Rashid comes into the attack.

OVERS 7: SL 59-2 A dream start for Dawson as he immediately picks up his first international wicket though he does end up conceding 8 due to the edge to the boundary.

Angelo Mathews the new man in.

WICKET! Very next ball after the boundary Gunathilaka tries to heave Dawson over long off, he doesn't quite get a hold of it and Jordan takes a good catch. Dawson has a wicket on debut.  Gunathilaka c. Jordan b. Dawson 26(16)

FOUR! Unlucky for Dawson there, a bottom edge from Gunathilaka beats everyone and it races away for four.

Left-arm spinner Liam Dawson comes into the attack, he's making his debut on his home ground.

OVERS 6: SL 51-1 A very expensive over here, Jordan was really picked apart there. 20 from the over.

FOUR! Another slower ball goes the distance, Mendis sending it over long on for four.

FOUR! Sri Lanka trying to capitalise on the last powerplay over here, and when Jordan goes full he is crashed through the covers.

SIX! First six of the innings, Jordan's slower ball gets turned into a full toss and Mendis just gets enough on it to clear the long boundary on the leg side.

Jordan back into the attack, replaces Mills.

OVERS 5: SL 31-1 Plunkett trying to compete with Mills on pace here and he's doing a good job, still limiting Sri Lanka here well.

FOUR! Only the second boundary of the innings so far, Plunkett just overpitches the slower ball and he's driven through the covers.

OVERS 4: SL 23-1 Mills is enjoying a good debut here, his pace is still at 90mph, although his fantastic slower delivery almost caught Mendis out, he has great variation. 6 from the over.

OVERS 3: SL 17-1 A very good over from Plunkett, good pace and control and brought England the crucial breakthrough.

Kusal Mendis the new man in.

WICKET! Plunkett gets the short ball right into Perera's body and the opener can only lob it to Mills. Perera c. Mills b. Plunkett 14(15)

Plunkett replaces Jordan in the attack.

OVERS 2: SL 11-0 A mixed bag over from Mills, seven coming from it. His pace has shone through, though, all six deliveries well into the 90's on the speed gun.

Tymal Mills will open at the other end, he's on debut.

OVERS 1: SL 3-0 A good over to start from Jordan, just two singles and a wide conceded.

Chris Jordan will open the bowling.

SRI LANKA 1st INNINGS

The super series is already decided, but that doesn't take anything away from what promises to be a good game. The match will get underway in five minutes.

Sri Lanka will know they need to post a big total if they stand a chance of winning today, England have picked such a long tail that even the dangerous Chris Jordan is batting down at number ten.

Only one of England's team changes is due to injury, David Willey has been confirmed to have a shin injury and is unable to play.

England continuing their policy of tinkering with their side and always picking the form players, although it does seem harsh on Dawid Malan that he doesn't get his chance to impress.

Sri Lanka: Perera, Gunathilaka, Mendis, Chandimal, Mathews, Shanaka, Bandara, Rambukwella, Prasanna, Pradeep, Maharoof.

England: Buttler (WK), Roy, Vince, Morgan, Bairstow, Billings, Dawson, Plunkett, Rashid, Jordan, Mills.

Here are the full teams for tonight:

More big news is that the express pace of Tymal Mills will make his England debut tonight.

The Sri Lankan captain is optimistic but he admitted "It's been a tough couple of months but we have the chance to end the tour on a high"

Angelo Mathews has won the toss and chosen to bat, Eoin Morgan wanted to bowl anyway. The big team new is that Jos Buttler will open while Malan and David Willey will miss out.

Here comes the toss...

For Sri Lanka, there will be a changed squad too. Dhananjaya de Silva is likely to replace Upul Tharanga, who isn't part of the Sri Lanka T20 squad and whilst Chaminda Bandara was expensive on his ODI debut he looks set to get the nod here too. Suraj Randiv could also be included to give Mathews another spin option.

Looking ahead at team news, there could be new faces in the squads. For England the right arm paceman Tymal Mills could be in line to make his debut as Trevor Bayliss has made no secret of his desire to get him in the playing XI. It has already been confirmed that spinning all-rounder, Liam Dawson will win his first cap at his home ground while Middlesex opener Dawid Malan will also start the game. The England new boys are benefiting from the decision to rest Alex Hales, Joe Root and Moeen Ali

England had a much better tournament, beating both Afghanistan and South Africa in the group stage, as well as Sri Lanka, in order to progress to the semi-finals. New Zealand, favourites for the tournament by that point, were next up, England seeing them off by seven wickets to reach the final. That’s when they met the West Indies again, and it seemed like they were going to make up for their opening game defeat to the West Indian’s, only until Ben Stokes was hit for four consecutive sixes with West Indies needing 19 runs off the final over to win.

Sri Lanka had a disappointing tournament, failing to progress to the semi-finals after finishing fourth in their group, winning just one of four games. That was against Afghanistan, in their opening game. They followed that up with losses to West Indies and South Africa, sandwiched by a defeat to today’s opponents, England.

These two teams met during the last time they were both actively playing T20 cricket, in the T20 World Cup earlier this year.

England, on the other hand, has had far more success with many of their young stars finding their form in the ODI series. Jason Roy, in particular, has been in scintillating form. The opening batsman has so far scored 316 runs, averaging over 100, even scoring the second highest ODI score for England when he scored 162 in the Fourth ODI.

The brand new super series introduced to give this tour more excitement is already decided with England already crowned the victors. England leads the series 18-4, Sri Lanka having only  taken points from ties and draws, Angelo Mathews' side are still yet to have tasted victory, with even their tour matches against county sides ending in draws. There has been a distinct lack of form, with only Dinesh Chandimal having hit his form in white ball cricket, scoring 267 runs at an average of 53.40.

So far on this tour, it has been a very one-sided affair. Whilst England has dominated, Sri Lanka has faltered. Sri Lanka's changing team so far having failed to gel together, whilst England's new look side has gone from strength to strength.

Good evening everyone, and welcome to VAVEL UK’s live ball-by-ball coverage of today’s one-off T20 international fixture between England and Sri Lanka, contested at the Rose Bowl, Hampshire’s ground. I’m Tom Simmonds and I’ll be taking you through the game, which will hopefully be a thriller as Sri Lanka’s tour of England comes to an end.
