Various sources such as Sky Sports News and The Independant Newspaper, have been recently reporting many promising things, for Arsenal fans, about their pursue of Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuaín. Following an, what some would call, underwhelming season from last year's signing Olivier Giroud, many Arsenal fans have been craving the sight of a world-class striker spearheading their front line. They were reportedly close to signing Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetić, but now the Montenegran seems destined to sign for Juventus. Ironically, it was thought that the Italian giants where going to be the biggest obstacle in Arsenal's bid to bring him to North London - as both clubs are looking for a world class striker. Last night, though, it was confirmed by Sky Sports that fellow Argentinian striker, Carlos Tévez of Manchester City, was on his way to the 'Old Lady', after they agreed a deal of around £10m, and were close to agreeing personal terms with the striker.

So, Arsenal fans are mostly ecstatic at the moment, as they're looking forward to Higuaín signing - and rightly so. The 25 year old has been very good over the last couple of seasons with Real Madrid - despite being in the shadow of Karim Benzema, and wrongly so in my opinion. This is the prime factor why, when the Gunners came in for him, he decided that a move to the red-and-white outfit would be best for his career. It'll be tremendously good for Arsenal, too, as he's a vast improvement from their current first choice forward Giroud. Here is a table comparing the two statistically (Powered by WhoScored).

  Gonzalo Higauín Olivier Giroud
Goals 17 13
Assists 7 7
Dribbles (per game) 0.6 0.3
Was fouled (per game) 0.8 0.6
Key Passes (per game) 0.9 0.9

As this table shows, Higuaín has had a better season, even though he started three less games. The only department in which the Frenchman is on par with the probable new signing is passing - they average the same amount of key-passes per game, and ultimately have the same amount of assists, but Arsenal aren't in need of assists. They have dazzling Santi Cazorla, lightning-fast Theo Walcott and the likes of Lukasz Podolski, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Yao Gervinho to be the ones setting up a goalscorer, something that many will say don't have. Giroud's best statistics of last season were assists, whereas Higuaín's were goals - at the end of the day, that is what you want from your striker.
