Raheem Sterling continued his goalscoring form on Wednesday night, scoring his third goal in four games, but it was Philippe Coutinho who stole the headlines with a sensational late winner and the 20-year-old had plenty of praise for his teammate.

"Philippe has that magic to turn the game on its head and we saw that again. It was great individual skill and a great finish," said Sterling, who scored the equalising goal in the 86th minute with a first-time volley after Emre Can's looped ball over the back four.

Having neatly finished against Aston Villa on the weekend too, Sterling's individual tally is now at nine goals - joint-top goalscorer with Steven Gerrard, but he was fully focused on the team's efforts after the final whistle.

The English international continued: "It was a great team effort to stay in the game and get the win at the end. We had a few chances to put the game away but we didn't take it.

"I was thinking at 1-0 and having hit the woodwork three times it didn't look like our day – but we stuck in there really well and got there in the end."

The Reds now face Crystal Palace in the next round of the competition, travelling to Selhurst Park on Saturday 14th to take on the Eagles. Sterling said of the fixture: "The important thing was to win. We go to Palace now and can hopefully nick a win there."
