Adam Lallana has insisted that Liverpool need to do their utmost to ensure they avoid the potential banana skin that awaits them in the form of Championship opposition Blackburn Rovers this Sunday.

The two teams meet in the FA Cup quarter-finals at Anfield, with the Reds finding the form that made them so ruthless last season - and they've started March fantastically with wins over Manchester City and Burnley in the Premier League.

Brendan Rodgers' side are only two points off of fourth place, but will be focusing on taking one step closer to the Northern Irishman's first silverware as Liverpool boss with a trip to Wembley on the line against Blackburn.

Rovers sit 10th in the league and have acquired a number of scalps already in the competition, beating both Swansea City and Stoke City on home turf in previous rounds, and Lallana has urged his teammates not to fall to the curse of the cup.

"It is a great competition in which we have a great chance of getting to Wembley in the semi-final," he said.

"We won’t underestimate Blackburn, we will dust ourselves down, recover well and go again Sunday.

"A lot of the big guns went out in the early rounds so it is good that we can maybe capitalise on that but Blackburn will not be an easy game.

"They will come here full of optimism and will want to cause an upset."

But the Reds approach the game in fine form, winning nine in their last 11 Premier League games as they brushed off the disappointment of Europa League elimination in late February.

"Beating Burnley was a massive win and not just that, off the back of the effort we put into the match against City it was a potential banana skin but the lads put on a professional display," added Lallana.

"We were brilliant in the first half and could have been two or three up and we got the goal early in the second half and it was comfortable in the last half-hour.

"We have a great rhythm and a good bit of consistency and are keeping clean sheets as well; we’ve turned a corner since Christmas and we are really looking good.

"It was a difficult start but all the signings have bedded in now and we have players back fit and we have found a system, we are playing really well and are causing teams problems.

"Confidence is a big thing in any team and we have that in abundance and I think it is showing."

A huge contributor in Liverpool last two league victories has been stand-in skipper Jordan Henderson.

The 24-year-old opened the scoring early against Manchester City with a sublime curling strike from range, and continued his fine run of form when his swerving half-volley beat Tom Heaton to give the Reds the lead on Wednesday night.

He even followed it up with a brilliant assist, as his cross allowed Daniel Sturridge to ensure victory in the second-half, and Lallana was keen to note Henderson's efforts.

"Jordan is unbelievable," the Englishman said. "He has matured as a player over the last two seasons and he has kicked on another level even with the armband.

"I was lucky enough to be captain at Southampton and it does give you that little bit extra and it seems it is doing the same to him.

"It is great to be playing with such good players and the results are on the up."
