Olympique Lyonnais ended their season on a high after they narrowly defeated Stade Rennais thanks to a late Clinton Njie goal.

Lyon came into the game without their star striker, Alexandre Lacazette, due to suspension and placed Mohamed Yattara up top.

Rennes played their familiar team with Anders Konradsen coming in for Gelson Fernandes in midfield.

The first proper chance of the game fell to the feet of Rennes' Abdoulaye Doucoure who couldn't direct his shot on target from outside the box - the move was masterminded by the quick feet of Ntep who waltzed into the box to set up his team-mate.

It wasn't long after before the visitors got their say in the game - lively playmaker, Nebil Fekir, tried to catch Benoit Costil out with a tricky shot from distance which whistled by the far post.

Kamil Grosicki got more involved as the half went on - he had his opportunity to score after Ola Toivonen sent him through inside the box, but his volley was several inches off target.

Following an effective counter-attack, Paul-Georges Ntep, could have put Rennes in front had it not been for the legs of Anthony Lopes to deny the winger to stop his close effort.

It took a while for another chance as good as that one to come to fruition in the second half - Benjamin Andre threaded a world class pass to Kamil Grosicki but the Pole couldn't set himself properly in the area to finish by Lopes.

Lyon made fresh changes as the game wasn't going in their direction - Malbranque was replaced by Fofana and Yattara was replaced by Njie - to run at the ageing legs of Armand and Danze in the Rennes defence.

Njie got himself involved immediately, the Cameroon international attempted a speculative volley from the corner of the box and was unfortunate to see the ball go over the bar.

Njie eventually did get his name on the scoresheet as the game was nearing the end - Maxime Gonalons floated a ball over the Rennes defence leaving the easy job for Njie to beat Armand in a foot race -  the forward set himself and slotted the ball by Costil's left post.

The win for Lyon solidified their second place spot in Ligue 1 meanwhile Rennes held on to their ninth place position to end the domestic season.
