Brentford manager Marinus Dijkhuizen has ruled out a move for Lars Veldwijk.

Dijkhuizen and Veldwijk worked together in the Netherlands at the end of the 2013-14 season at Excelsior, where the forward was highly prolific.

Dijkhuizen took over the Eerste Divisie club in January 2014 and his decision to move Veldwijk further up the pitch, as he encouraged a more attacking style of play, certainly reaped its rewards. Veldwijk scored 17 goals in his next 16 games, propelling the team into third place and the play-offs. There, they beat RKC Waalwijk 4-2 over two legs to earn promotion to the top flight of Dutch football.

Veldwijk's scoring form stopped in the Championship

However, the 23-year-old's red hot form would attract the interest of Nottingham Forest, who paid £500,000 for his services in June last year. He left Excelsior boasting a record of 30 goals in 38 games, but would lose his golden touch upon his arrival in England.

Veldwijk made 11 league appearances for the club in the season gone, but failed to find the back of the net once and created just three chances. However, he has not been granted the playing time he perhaps needs to rediscover his good form, with him yet to start a single match and accumulating just 142 minutes of Championship football.

Dijkhuizen has dismissed speculation outright

Rumours have circulated linking the striker to a move to Brentford, with it suggested that Dijkhuizen can help get the best of of him once again. Nonetheless, quotes supplied by Get West London suggest that Veldwijk is not someone the Bees are looking at.

"We haven't spoken about him," Dijkhuizen said, abruptly ending the potential transfer link between player and club. He also admitted that he does not "know what's gone wrong for [Veldwijk] over here," though he did add that "he's only played a few times."

Speculation really began when Brentford's new manager spoke of the team needing more depth and "a bigger squad because there's a lot of games."

Whilst Dijkhuizen is certainly looking to add more players to his new squad, as of now, Veldwijk is not on his list.
