Manchester United will begin their quest for a 21st League title with a home game against Tottenham Hotspurs on the weekend commencing 8th August. The Premier League fixtures have been announced so United and their fans now know who they will be facing when.

Louis Van Gaal guided Manchester United to a fourth place finish in the Premier League last, his first season in English football, he will be looking to improve on that next season and mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title. United will be looking for a better start to the season than they enjoyed last season, when they picked up five points from their first five games, losing to Swansea at home on the opening day and losing 5-3 at Leicester after being 3-1 up.

United’s five fixtures this time around see them facing Tottenham (h), Aston Villa (a), Newcastle United (h), Swansea (a) and Liverpool (h). Van Gaal will expect his team to at least be in touching distance of the top of the Premier League table, if not top.

Opening day sees Van Gaal and his team face Tottenham at Old Trafford, a fixture United won 3-0 last season thanks to goals Fellaini, Carrick and Rooney. This result all ended Tottenham’s chances of Champions League qualification. These two sides haven’t met on the opening day since 1997, when United won 2-0 at White Hart Lane, this will be the first time that United have hosted Tottenham on the opening day.
