Manchester United have delivered an ultimatum to Real Madrid as the clubs seem to have a reached a deadlock over the signings of Sergio Ramos and David De Gea.

As United seek to sign Madrid's veteran defender Ramos, the Spanish club are reluctact to let him leave the Bernabeú, however United seem to be in the stronger negotiating position.

United hold strong on De Gea

According to the Telegraph, United have told Madrid that they will categorically not sell de Gea to them unless the Spanish club sell Ramos. This means they're willing to let De Gea's contract run down for the final year of his contract at Old Trafford which would let him leave for free next summer.

United's stance against Madrid has strengthened after Ramos has revealed his desire to leave Madrid to join Louis van Gaal's side.

The club's reasoning behind their resolve is due to their conclusion that they will have to spend around £30million pounds to buy a new world-class goalkeeper as De Gea's replacement, however they also value Ramos around the same price.

Ramos centre of De Gea future

This has come to a shock to Madrid as they assumed United would let De Gea for a cut-price as he enters the last 12 months of his contract, especially as the club know that De Gea's motivations are also to do with his girlfriend and family.

Despite Madrid thinking United would be sympathetic to these reasons, Ramos has made the deal more complicated and as a result strengthened United's position in negotiations.

The Spanish defender has told his club to listen to offers from United and is also considering to make his desire to leave Madrid public in a bid to cement a move to Old Trafford.

The 29-year-old told his club that he has only the desire to join the Manchester club, just as De Gea wants to join Madrid.
