Striker Robin Van Persie praised Manchester United chief executive Ed Woodward after his swift move to Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbahce.

The Dutchman was greeted by thousands of fans ahead of finalising his £4.8million pound move to the Turkish club.

In his press unveiling, the 31-year-old went on to talk about Woodward saying: "I highly appreciate the work of Ed [Woodward], the CEO of Man United. The way he dealt with this transfer was at a high level. It was very classy.

"He proved that he is a true gentleman in the way that he dealt with the whole situation, so Ed, if you are listening, thank you."

Van Persie has no hard feelings after switch

The former Arsenal striker admitted that he did have discussions with other clubs before finalising his move and also admitted that he knew that the writing was on the wall in terms of his future at Old Trafford but there was no grudge against his former club.

"It was a situation that I could see it coming, if I am honest," he said of his Old Trafford exit.

"I got used to the idea for quite a while. It wasn't a situation where it was just happening from day-to-day, so I got used to the situation – that is football."

He might not hold a grudge against the club but it does seem that the striker does have one of some sort against former manager and compatriot Louis Van Gaal, when he was asked if there was any parting message from Van Gaal he only spoke of his farewell meeting with former teammates.

Van Persie isn’t the only United player to make a move to Turkey in this summer transfer window with Nani also moving to Fenerbache and full-back Rafael having been linked with a move to Galatasaray.

United are now looking for replacements for Van Persie with Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski been linked with a transfer on Tuesday.
