Queens Park Rangers have completed the permanent signing of Dutch attacking midfielder Tjaronn Chery, the club has confirmed on their official website.

The 27-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-year contract with the Championship club, after an undisclosed release clause believed to be around the £2.25million mark was triggered at previous side Groningen.

Chery will join pre-season training as his new side's sixth acquisition of the summer, while the R's are still hopeful that Brazilian midfielder Sandro will be granted a work permit.

Les Ferdinand is happy to have him on board

Speaking to qpr.co.uk, club legend and Director of Football Les Ferdinand said that everyone working behind the deal was "delighted" to have completed the signing, after working "for a while" to get it over the line.

Ferdinand noted that QPR had beaten off interest from a number of other clubs including some Premier League sides to acquire Chery's signature, and that he was pleased to see the attacking midfielder reject offers of higher wages elsewhere to join the recently-relegated club.

He went on to describe the new man as "versatile", effective "across the front line... in a central or wide role", adding to the R's attacking options in a number of positions.

Chery wants to show English fans what he can do

The player himself, meanwhile, described himself as "very happy" to have arrived, and he said that he has spoken to QPR midfielder Leroy Fer ahead of completing his "dream" move to English football.

Chery assured fans that he is in the "best years of [his] career", also saying that he is aware of "how the fans like to see football played" in England.

Chery arrives with an impressive goalscoring record for a midfielder, having notched 25 strikes in the Dutch Eredivisie for Groningen over the last two seasons.
