Ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has spoken about Liverpool's latest summer recruit, Christian Benteke,  who signed for the Anfield club this week for £32.5 million.

The Belgian forward joins Roberto Firmino, Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez, James Milner, and Danny Ings in signing for Brendan Rodgers to help the historic club return to the Champions League.

Carragher has said that he admires the work Christian Benteke has endeavored since arriving from Genk three years ago, where the Belgian netted 42 goals for Aston Villa.

However, Carragher warns Liverpool fans not to get overly excited by the prospect of Benteke firing the Reds back to the top of the Premier League, with the current Sky Sports pundit questioning whether his style will suit the intricate play Rodgers has adopted at Liverpool.

Carragher questioned whether Benteke will "be suited to the short, sharp and incisive passing game" that Rodgers likes to use - adding that the Northern Irishman "wants his side to play through teams, rather than getting the ball into the box from wide areas."

Rodgers likened his worries to those shared by Tim Sherwood, who pointed out the differences in style as soon as Liverpool's interest wasa made public.

Carragher says Benteke's biggest issue is being a known entity

Benteke has gone down in Liverpool's history books as the second most expensive player to sign for the club, with him only falling behind Andy Carroll, who joined from Newcastle United for £35 million four years ago.

With the former toon striker being known as flop at Liverpool, mainly due to his undeserved price tag, and his reluctance to adapt to Brendan Rodgers' style of play, it is easy to see the similarities that are being drawn between Benteke and Carroll.

Carragher added: "‘Parallels have already been drawn with Carroll and people have pointed out that Rodgers wasted no time in getting rid of him, but that decision had nothing to do with the fact that Carroll was a big man. It was purely down to him lacking pace and movement.

"Those are qualities Benteke does not lack but his biggest problem at the moment, where a lot of Liverpool fans are concerned, is that they know him."
