Aston Villa are preparing a £5million pound bid to sign winger Aaron Lennon, according to reports in the Metro.

The Tottenham forward, 28, has been heavily linked with a move away from White Hart Lane over the past few months with his future seemingly uncertain as of yet. Lennon has not received a squad number within Mauricio Pochettino's side for the new campaign - and they lost their season opener against Manchester United on Saturday lunchtime with him not involved with the matchday squad, which highlights the possibility that Spurs believe he's on his way out of the club.

Eager for his chance to flourish

The Englishman spent last season out on-loan at Everton, but a permanent deal has seemingly failed to materialise at Goodison Park despite Aaron personally admitting in the local newspaper that he enjoyed the experience itself.

Tim Sherwood, who managed Lennon during his spell with the north Londoners prior to being sacked, wants to add more firepower to his squad especially in the attacking midfield areas.

Villa looking to add more firepower to an ever-improving side

With Jordan Ayew and Rudy Gestede amongst others having already signed this summer, the west Midlands side are eager to keep strengthening with an ever-improving squad at their disposal.

Lennon's current contract with Tottenham expires next summer, so Pochettino would be satisfied with a reasonable fee for him as opposed to letting him go on a free transfer in 2016.

With Nacer Chadli, Erik Lamela, Andros Townsend and Alex Pritchard all ahead of Lennon in the pecking order - a move away seems the best option for the Chapeltown-born winger, who has struggled for consistency having endured so inconvienient injuries at crucial times for Spurs over the past few seasons.

If a fee and personal terms are agreed between the two parties, a deal could be finalised within the coming week.
