Spanish winger Pedro has asked Barcelona to let him leave the club, after he's been persistently linked with a move to Manchester United in the last few weeks.

United looking for Di Maria replacement

United boss Louis van Gaal has already confirmed he's looking for another attacking player to add to his squad after the departure of Angel di Maria to PSG, and Pedro seems to fit his criteria of adding pace to his forward line.

A move to Old Trafford now seems certain after Pedro was named on the bench for Barcelona's UEFA Super Cup final against Sevilla in Georgia.

The Barcelona technical director, Robert Fernandez, confirmed the Spanish international has asked to leave the club.

Barcelona confirm Pedro desire to leave

"Pedro asked for a transfer," Ferdnandez said. "We are not going to accept less than €30m for him, it's not negotiable."

However after the match, where Pedro scored the winner in a 5-4 win, he contradicted Fernandez's comments.

He questioned Fernandez' comments, "sports director says I said I want out? He shouldn't say that, I barely talked with him."

Pedro says he will always be a Barcelona fan

Pedro has "talked with the president and others" during a "difficult situation" for him. He says he will "always be a Barcelona fan" but he does not know "what will happen."

If Pedro joined the Red Devils, he would most likely challenge Ashley Young, and line up alongside Wayne Rooney and Memphis Depay in a 4-3-3 formation despite Van Gaal using a 4-2-3-1 formation against Spurs.

Despite United winning their opening game of the season 1-0 thanks to an own goal by Kyle Walker, it was clear the side lacked pace after Depay was taken off for Ander Herrera.

With the departure of Di Maria, and Antonio Valencia being kept out the side by Matteo Darmian, United heavily depend on Young and Depay to offer speed and penetration.

If Pedro joins Manchester United, he'll be the latest to join Spanish contingent of players at the club with the likes of Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and possibly outgoing goalkeeper, David de Gea.
