The future of Hull City's Jake Livermore still remains unclear as the midfielder awaits a Football Association hearing.

Livermore tested positive for cocaine after his side's 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park back in April.

After testing positive for the class A drug, Livermore was suspended by both the FA and Hull City for the remainder of the Premier League season, during which the Tigers were relegated.

It is understood that Steve Bruce's side were fully aware that Livermore was battling difficult personal issues during the course of the season and on Thursday it was reported that his failed drugs test came just days after the loss of his baby.

Players who test positive for illegal 'social' drugs on match-days, as opposed to performance-enhancing drugs, can be expected to face up to a two-year ban under FA rules.

The club refused to comment on the situation until the Football Association's verdict had been reached, however, in the meantime, the player remains suspended.

The story so far

Livermore began his professional career with Tottenham Hotspur in 2008 at the age of 18 after developing through the club's youth system.

He made his debut whilst on loan with the then League Two outfit MK Dons in a 1-0 over Chester City. The following season he was loaned out to Crewe Alexandra but failed to make an appearance after fracturing his fibula.

Livermore then joined Championship side Derby County in August 2009, again on loan, before joining Peterborough United later that season.

On 2nd March, the 25-year-old was recalled from his loan spell at London Road and went on to make his competitive debut for Spurs later that month, in a 2-1 victory over Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium.

Livermore was then loaned out to Hull City, following spells with Ipswich Town and Leeds United, where he eventually made a permanent move for a believed £8 million fee.

The Enfield-born midfielder also has one England cap to his name after appearing for the national side in a 2-1 friendly win against Italy in August 2012.

He made 35 Premier League appearances for Hull last season but was unable to prevent them from being relegated to the Championship.
