Premier League Manchester City have made it clear that defender Eliaquim Mangala will not be leaving the Etihad this summer.

It was believed that he would part of the deal to bring Valencia’s Nicolas Otamendi to Manchester with the Frenchman going to the Mestalla on a loan deal, however the club are reportedly unwilling to let the 24-year-old leave as they want him to continue his development with them.

It was a difficult first season in the English top flight after his £31.8m move from Portuguese side Porto, but has impressed so far in the new campaign alongside captain Vincent Kompany; helping keep two clean sheet in the opening two matches.

The La Liga side have also asked about the availability of City youngster Marco Lopes; the 19-year-old impressed on loan last year at Ligue 1 side Lille and was part of the pre-season squad that toured Australia.

It was reported on Tuesday that the long-term target for their rivals, Manchester United, was spotted in Manchester Airport to discuss details over a move which is expected to be worth in the region of £28.5m.

A complicated deal

One of the other main complications of the move seems to be former City striker Alvaro Negredo. The Spaniard spent last season on loan at the club and they have the obligation to purchase him on a permanent basis this summer with the deal costing £23.8m.

However, it has been reported by the Express that the club still owe the majority of that transfer fee. Valencia are a club that have had their financial struggles well-documented over the last few years and have offered the defender to avoid paying the fee and asked for the Frenchman in return.

City would prefer to have the money to help fund their move for Wolfsburg midfielder and Belgium international, Kevin de Bruyne. City’s latest reported offer of £47m was rejected by the Bundesliga side but a new offer of £57m is reportedly imminent.
