The Mail report that the fee for Poole, who had a £60,000 bid rejected by Newport from Hull City, could rise to around £400,000 based on appearances and other bonuses.

Poole joining indicates United boss Louis van Gaal's desire to shape United for the future. The young striker Martial is set to sign today for a huge fee of at least £36million from Monaco, after scoring nine goals in Ligue 1 last season.

The youngster has already played for the Newport County, the club at the very bottom of the Football League with one point after five games in League Two, first team in the Capital One Cup.

In the match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Poole started for the Welsh club.
