Reading have accepted a bid from fellow Championship side Derby County for star striker Nick Blackman.

Derby confirmed the signing via Twitter, saying he'd signed on to a three-year contract with the club. The fee is reportedly in the vicinity of £2.5 million.

Blackman a sensational talent at forward

Blackman, 26, leads the Royals with 13 goals so far in the 2015-16 season, sitting at third with his 11 in the league this season. The English forward came over from Sheffield United for a fee of £1 million on a three-and-a-half-year contract in 2013. He had 11 goals in 28 appearances for United.

"There has been a lot of interest in him so we're naturally happy that he has chosen to join us," said Derby County manager Paul Clement

At the weekend, Blackman scored a last-minute winner versus Bristol City to push his team to the top half of the league table with a 1-0 victory. The striker's contract at Reading was set to expire this summer.

Reading chief executive Nigel Howe called the transaction "the right thing for all parties concerned" after he failed to strike a new deal with Blackman after around five months of negotiations.

After a healthy youth career with Macclesfield Town, Blackman signed with Blackburn Rovers on a two-and-a-half-year deal, most of which was spent on loan to Blackpool, Oldham Athletic, Motherwell, and Aberdeen

With Blackburn, the striker did play under coach Clement for some time, as the now-Rams boss was the club's manager in 2011-12.

Where the deal puts the Rams

Derby County are hoping for Blackman to provide extra goal-scoring on the club's push at the Championship league title. They currently are second in the table with 48 points through 25 matches, two points behind top-of-the-table Middlesbrough, who also have one-less match played.

"We've got a number of talented players in the attacking areas of our squad and Nick only enhances that," added Clement.

Blackman is the second signing Derby County have made this window, as they've already signed Abdoul Camara from Angers SCO of the Ligue 1.
