There were five Southampton players whose teams were in international action over the course of Saturday, with James Ward Prowse, Matty Targett, Fraser Forster and Sadio Mane all appearing for their respective nations.

Ward-Prowse and Targett both started for England under 21's as they drew 1-1 with Switzerland in ThunJack Stephens was an unused sub in that match.

Mane played the full game for Senegal this evening as they beat Niger 2-0.

Forster came on as a sub in the 44th minute, replacing the injured Jack Butland in England's 3-2 win over world champions Germany in Berlin.

Youngsters play in draw

Ward-Prowse captained the young England side to the draw in Thun as they took the lead through Chuba Akpom after the break before Florian Kamberi scored the leveller on the break.

The 21 year-old came close to scoring the winner in the dying minutes as he saw a superb free-kick come back off the apex to deny Ward-Prowse. It was another fine performance from the Southampton man as he continues to grow his reputation on the international stage.

As for Targett, he played the full match at left back and was a constant threat down the left flank and put in a number of fine crosses. Targett is having a fantastic season for the Saints so far and showed why he is doing so well, as he, along with Ward-Prowse, were both really good on the night in Thun.

Mane grabs 2 assists

Mane also started for his country -- Senegal -- as they won another African Cup of Nation’s qualifier. He played the full game and created two assists for Mo Diamé and Omar Niasse and put in an overall fine performance throughout the match. In truth though, it was an easy win for Senegal as they remained top of their qualifying group.

Forster makes return

Forster played for England for the first time since coming back from his long term injury as England came from behind to beat Germany 3-2 in Berlin.

Forster didn't start the match and was required to come on when Stoke City keeper Jack Butland went off injured just before the break with the side 1-0 down. Forster didn't have an awful lot to do but, he did make a couple of useful saves along the way to preserve the win for the English.
