Former Sunderland youngster Mikael Mandron has signed for Vanarama National League club Eastleigh.
Lost his way
Mandron was one of four youngsters that were released by the Black Cats this summer. The Frenchman left the club along with Liam Agnew, Martin Smith and Dylan McEvoy.
Much was expected of Mandron when Paolo Di Canio gave him a run-out in the 6-1 defeat to Aston Villa, however he would go onto to make only two more senior appearances, both from the bench.
The 21-year-old didn't prove that successful while out loan, scoring his only senior goal so far for Fleetwood Town. He then had unsuccessful spells at both Shrewsbury Town and Hartlepool United.
Sheer delight
Mandron has become Eastleigh's eighth signing this summer, with the Vanarama National League side bringing: David Pipe, Jake Howells, Richard Duffy, Adam Dugdale, Adam Dawson, Scott Wilson and Connor Essam to Stoneham Lane.
Speaking of the signing of Mandron, who pens a two-year deal, Eastleigh boss Chris Todd told the Daily Echo that he was "delighted" to "capture" the player.
He continued, saying that he is "another young talent" with "unbelievable potential" and is "positive" that he will be a "firm favourite" with "the fans."
Difficult decision
Agnew looks to be the next player of the four released that could find a club. The former under-21 captain had two trials at Bradford City, but now former manager Phil Parkinson casted doubt over a move.
He told the Chronicle back in April that Agnew was a player City "were watching," but admitted that they "didn't feel" they needed to "bring him on loan" to Valley Parade.
On the youngster's release, Sunderland academy manager, Ged McNamee said that it is "never easy" to release players, especially when they have been "with you for a number of years."
He continued, saying that the club "ensure" that they do "everything" they can to "support them" as they "move forward" in their careers.
