Many Swansea City fans had started to wonder if the Swans would sign a new striker before the new Premier League season starts on the 13th August with an away fixture against Burnley.
With Eder and Alberto Palsoschi having already left the club, and Bafetimbi Gomis poised to join Marseille on loan for the rest of the season, rumours are now rife about links with Fernando Llorente of Sevilla, Peter Crouch of Stoke City and Leonardo Ulloa of Leicester City.
All three players are tall centre-forwards and it seems that Francesco Guidolin has set his sites on this type of player to lead the line for Swansea this season as target-men.
Llorente the latest
Up until yesterday, Real Sociedad were - and still they maybe - favourites to sign Llorente on loan from Sevilla. However, the Swans confirmed late last night that they are interested in signing him too.
Speaking to BBC Wales Sport, Alan Curtis described Llorente as "one of the players who has been mentioned," adding: "It's probably time we brought a big signing in."
Llorente is 31-years-old and previously has played for Atletico Bilbao and Juventus. He has made 210 career league appearances, mainly for Bilbao, and has scored 79 goals. He also has 24 caps for Spain, making his debut for his country in 2008.
The Spaniard is tall, at around 6ft 4", and would cause a big threat on the end of crosses into the box, with Swansea having the fire-power in Modou Barrow and Jefferson Montero, amongst others, to supply the ammunition.
Llorente is definitely a player that would suit Swansea City's style of play.
But amongst other candidates
Crouch is another player that is being linked with the Swans. Crouch is available for £3 million and is thought to be disenchanted with his time at Stoke, especially having spent so much time warming the bench at the club last season.
The towering forward has previously played for Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, amongst other teams. He has also played 42 times for England, scoring 22 goals. Now 35-years-old, however, Crouch may not have the mobility required to suit Swansea's style.
Leonardo Ulloa has also been linked with the Swans for the last couple of weeks, with an enquiry reported to have been made earlier this week.
Ulloa turned 30 this week and has scored 17 goals in his 66 appearances for Leicester City. He is rumoured to be very interested in joining up with his former Leicester team mate from last season - Nathan Dyer, who was on-loan at the club last season from Swansea.
Dyer too has sung his praises, telling the South Wales Evening Post that Ulloa is "a great player" who would "fit in nicely" at the Liberty Stadium.
"He has the same attributes as Michu had. He's calm on the ball and has a great presence," the winger continued, adding: "He's a great finisher and I loved playing with him. We had a good relationship and he's a good guy."
Like Llorente, Ulloa would suit Swansea's style of play. He's a tall target-man and would be a good addition for the club.
Whatever happens though, it is no secret that Swansea require at least two new centre-forwards and it's possible that one or even two of the above players could be Swans in the coming days or weeks.
