England youth international Paige Williams has joined Italian Serie A side Verona for the upcoming 2016-17 season.

Williams spent last term in Italy with Brescia, winning the league and the domestic cup as well as qualifying for the UEFA Women's Champions League.

She will be targeting these exact same achievements this campaign too, as Verona look to build on their second-placed league finish and runners-up medal from the cup in 2015-16.

First words

Speaking to the club's official website, Williams revealed that she had plenty of options for the upcoming season before choosing to join Verona.

"After the success of last season with the shirt of Brescia, I tried with my agent for new challenges," she said. "Together, we found the interest of many major European clubs, both for the immediate and for the future."

Williams also admitted that she "tried to extend [her] contract with Brescia" and that, as well as Verona, there were other Serie A clubs interested in her services.

However, last year's runners-up attracted her with the "project" they have at hand, as well as the "international mix of players coming [to the club] from other leagues."

Verona have brought in a flurry of players from across the continent this term as they look to further enhance their standing on the European stage, and Williams is excited to be a part of that.

Finally, she thanked her former club for everything they did for her last year, helping her find her feet in Italy in order to help her continue her career in Serie A.

"I am a professional athlete and I am grateful to Brescia and their supporters who have made me feel at ease in Italy," Williams said, hoping now to bolster Verona's title challenge in 2015-16 having experience success in the country already.
