West Ham United manager, Slaven Bilic has admitted that the Hammers can't rely on striker, Andy Carroll after he was handed another injury setback.

Setback after setback

It has been unfortunate run of injuries for the English striker, playing only 81 matches in over four years with the Hammers.

He has suffered another setback, with a knee injury in the 1-1 draw with Astra Giurgiu confirmed to keep him out between four and six weeks.

Carroll is the latest Hammers player to join the injury list, and Bilic admitted that he has become frustrated with Carroll's unreliability.

"I will sign now the contract if his injury is four weeks or six weeks and, after that, good until the end of the season. I will take it." Bilic said, reported by FourFourTwo.

The Croatian added: "Andy is Andy. He's dedicated now to training, to everything, it's a big blow for us."

He admitted, "A big question mark also and big frustration with these things that are happening to him.

"The worst situation is when you plan, then you can't count on him. All the time." Bilic concluded.

Remaining positive

The Hammers have been very unfortunate with injuries of late, with Aaron Cresswell, Dimitri Payet, Manuel Lanzini, Sofiane Feghouli and Andre Ayew all missing from the 1-0 win over Bournemouth.

However despite the significant depletion in the attacking side of their side, Bilic reiterated that he is remaining positive.

"The only two who are going to be long term are Cresswell and Ayew,” said Bilic, who keenly pointed out “Even Cresswell should be back in maybe October. Andre Ayew, if everything goes according to what the doctors are saying, can be on the pitch December 1st. It’s not ideal, but I want to stay positive.”

West Ham United will host Astra Giurgiu at the London Stadium in the second-leg of their Europa League play-off on Thursday, August 25 with kick-off at 7:45pm BST.
