Tottenham Hotspur left it to the final minutes of the summer transfer window to complete the £30million transfer of Moussa Sissoko from Newcastle United.

Spurs left it late to sign the midfielder

Throughout the window, Spurs had been linked with many players without signing them. But on the final day of the window Spurs finally made their move for Sissoko but they weren't willing to pay Newcastle's asking fee.

Everton then made their move for the midfielder and agreed on a fee with the Magpies but this seemed to wake Spurs up as they matched the offer late in the day.

Sissoko then had a decision to make on who he would like to join and in the end, the Lillywhites completed the transfer that raised a lot of eyebrows.

The reason why many people questioned the move was due to the fact Sissoko is inconsistent, so with that being said is Sissoko the man Spurs need to take them to the next level?

Which Sissoko will Spurs be getting on a consistent basis?

The french midfielder only managed to score one goal for the Magpies last season as they were relegated to the Championship. Sissoko also looked like a man that was disinterested throughout the season and really wanted to make a move away from the club. The problem though was that other clubs would be looking at him thinking is he really worth the fuss?

At the Euros, though, Sissoko was amazing and one of the stand out players for France as they reached the final. In the final itself, the midfielder was the best player on the pitch and was very unlucky to be on the losing side.

These performances would have left many clubs thinking well if he can do it on the big stage why can he not do it in the Premier League on a consistent basis? The reason would be that Sissoko was determined to get a move to a Champions League club and that is what Spurs are for this season at least.

Sissoko adds a different dimension to the team

If Spurs are going to be able to compete in the Premier League as well as in Europe they needed to add quality players to their squad and with Sissoko they have a player who could be so important for them.

Teams in Europe will not like coming up against Sissoko due to his running ability and being to take players on at will whenever he is in the mood. This scares defenders and therefore for Spurs to get out of their group he adds an extra dimension that the team were lacking last season.

Spurs are also getting a ready-made Premier League player in the form of Sissoko so therefore it shouldn't take him too long to settle in. It was very important for Mauricio Pochettino whenever he sold Nabil Bentaleb and Ryan Mason that he was able to get in a replacement that would add more quality to the side.

Pochettino's men have made a decent start to the season, taking five points from their opening three games in the league but it could have been much more.

Sissoko and Dembele could form a power partnership in the middle of the park

Spurs have missed Moussa Dembele, who has been serving a six game suspension for an incident with Diego Costa last season, due to the fact how he drives forwards with the ball which really made the team tick last season.

Sissoko therefore alongside Dembele provides real steel and power to the Spurs midfield that many teams will not like coming up against and the quicker the pair can get out on the field together the better it will be for the team.

Many people have laughed at the price that Spurs have paid for the midfielder but in today's market it is nothing especially if he can show his best form for the team.

Overall the signing of the Sissoko can be the difference for Spurs depending on his mindset, so therefore yes he is the kind of player the side need. Under Pochettino the midfielder can really improve and if he is able to produce the kind of performances he was able for the French national team in the summer then Spurs are getting a brilliant player.
