Until then, I've been Matt Dawson, and thank you for joining me for VAVEL UK's live text commentary of Arsenal's late win over Southampton this afternoon. Cheerio!

FT: Next up for Arsenal is PSG in the Champions League as the Gunners travel to the French capital before a slightly less glamorous Premier League fixture up north against Hull. Southampton meanwhile face Sparta Prague in the Europa League on Thursday and then face Swansea in the League next weekend.

AS THINGS STAND: With that result Arsenal sit in fifth position, a point off rivals Spurs, and five points off league leaders Manchester City after their derby victory today. Southampton though have sunk into the relegation zone after defeat, as they sit on just two points.

FT: Southampton's main man meanwhile was Dusan Tadic who looked brilliant going forward. He was at the centre of everything good the Saints did and his performance will have encouraged Claude Puel hugely. He will however be cursing his luck as his side still search for their first three points of the new season.

FT: Santi Cazorla was easily Arsenal's best player out there today, and his goal was the icing on the cake for his performance. He tracked back brilliantly and was hugely influential in midfield. The result however will only paper over the cracks that still remain in Wenger's side.

FT: Southampton will feel hard done by after that result, the wait for a win goes on for them but Arsenal you feel, got away with it there. They weren't at their best, and they struggled to break down a resilient Southampton defence, but they got the break and goals from Koscielny and Cazorla have sealed the win for the Gunners at the Emirates.

FULL TIME: Arsenal 2-1 Southampton. Cazorla's late penalty kick was indeed the winner as the Gunners come away with all three points.

94: Santi Cazorla steps up, with big pressure after a massive delay as both van Dijk and Bertrand get booked in the build-up but the Spaniard makes no mistake to surely win the game for Arsenal. 2-1!

92: Slight delay before the penalty is taken here as Koscielny is down and receiving treatment.

91: PENALTY TO ARSENAL! Olivier Giroud is brought down by Jose Fonte and the Gunners have a late chance to win the game here.

85: Another brilliant chance goes begging as Giroud can only find the side netting with a header after Cazorla's delightful ball in.

84: Hojbjerg's shot from distance is well kept out by Cech and then the rebound falls to Shane Long who should score but again the Arsenal keeper is there and he puts it out for a corner to the Saints.

SOUTHAMPTON SUB: A final change from Claude Puel as Tadic comes off in place of James Ward-Prowse.

79: Iwobi plays the ball into a rampant Nacho Monreal inside the box but his shot is deflected wide of the goal.

76: WHAT A CHANCE! It seems as though it's one of those days for Arsenal as Cazorla is played in but slips when he shoots, but the ball squirms its way through to Giroud who looks like he's going to have a tap in but he slips too and fails to make contact. The conditions really playing havoc here.

ARSENAL SUB: The final throw of the dice from Arsene Wenger as Alex Iwobi replaces Theo Walcott.

74: The ball comes in from the left hand side but another chance goes begging in this game as Shane Long heads over under pressure.

72: Nathan Redmond tries an effort from distance but he blazes it high and into the crowd.

68: Ozil finds Sanchez who gets the ball out of his feet before firing over.

66: Shane Long has the best chance of the second half for the Saints as Tadic plays it into him but one-on-one with Cech he puts it wide.

SOUTHAMPTON SUB: Jordy Clasie is replaced by Hojbjerg.

ARSENAL SUBS: Debutant Lucas Perez who has been rather isolated today is off, and on comes Giroud. Meanwhile Alexis has replaced Oxlade-Chamberlain.

61: The Gunners interchange passes really nice on the edge of the area before Hector Bellerin flashes a shot towards goal but it goes wide.

59: Arsenal lose possession which allows a Southampton counter attack as the game becomes really stretched. Santi Cazorla however gets back to make a vital interception.

57: GREAT BLOCK: Arsenal really building up ahead of steam here. Ozil lays the ball into Lucas Perez but his shot inside the area is blocked brilliantly by Ryan Bertrand. Still 1-1 here.

55: Theo Walcott breaks well down the right hand side and interchanges passes with Mesut Ozil but the German's first touch lets him down on the edge of the area as the space opened up for him. Another chance goes begging for the Gunners.

54: BOOKING: Fraser Forster is shown a yellow card for time wasting as he took too long over his goal kick.

53: Arsenal have started the second half brightly but can't seem to break down the Southampton wall. The visitors looking resilient at the back.

46: Back underway here for the second half.

SOUTHAMPTON SUB: Shane Long replaces Jay Rodriguez at the start of the second half.

The rain is really hammering it down at the Emirates but the players are back out, and we're about to get back underway.

The second half is approaching at the Emirates, stay with us here at VAVEL UK for all the updates from North London.

Very intriguing first half of football then. Southampton started off bright but Arsenal came back into it well towards the end of the half and got their goal through defender Laurent Koscielny. The Gunners however will need to be much improved in the second half. As for Southampton, they'll surely revert to playing on the counter now.

HALF TIME: Arsenal 1-1 Southampton.

45: Two added minutes at the end of the first half.

42: Theo Walcott dinks a ball towards the back post and Oxlade-Chamberlain takes a brilliant touch before turning and firing a shot which is deflected for a corner.

35: Bellerin puts in a lovely cross which finds its way to Ozil at the back post but his shot is blocked by Clasie.

29: The Gunners hit back and it has come courtesy of the skipper Laurent Koscielny. A corner comes in and then bounces around before Koscielny fires a brilliant over-head kick past Forster and into the back of the net. 1-1 here at the Emirates.

28: Arsenal beginning to find their fluidity now, moving the ball quicker in the final third.

24: Chance for Arsenal as Cazorla swings a free-kick in from the left flank but Walcott heads over at the near post.

17: Tadic, who has been bright for Southampton so far lifts the resultant free-kick over the wall but the ball hits the bar and then comes back off Cech and into the net. It was poor positioning from the Arsenal keeper and that will have to down as an own goal. 1-0 to Southampton!

16: BOOKING: First yellow card of the game goes to Nacho Monreal who brings down Nathan Redmond in a promising position right on the edge of the area. Free-kick to Southampton.

12: Not much to report on so far here at the Emirates. Tadic looking dangerous for the visitors though. Arsenal have started sluggishly.

5: Tadic swings the ball in from the right for Southampton but Rodriguez heads over the bar.

3: Dusan Tadic gets in behind the Arsenal defence but is flagged for offside. Tight call.

KICK-OFF: Arsenal get us underway here in the rain at the Emirates.

The teams are coming out of the tunnel, we are just minutes away from kick-off at the Emirates.

We have an interesting stat for you before we get underway; the last time Arsenal failed to score at home was the 2nd February, against Southampton. A bad omen then possibly for Wenger's men? However, the Saints haven't kept a league clean-sheet since the 13th February. Testing times.

Arsenal fans will no doubt be excited to see their new signings in action today. The club's new number 9 Lucas has been dubbed the 'Spanish Jamie Vardy' so it will be refreshing for supporters to see a quick striker in action, rather than the tall figure of Giroud who is yet to start a game this season.

We're just half an hour away from kick-off now. Big game for both sides as they look to pick up points early in the season.

As for the visitors Southampton, Ryan Bertrand is in the squad for the first time this season and will have the job of keeping countryman Theo Walcott quiet. Jay Rodriguez also starts and it will be interesting to see how he does after missing a huge amount of football recently.

Perhaps rather surprisingly though, Granit Xhaka is on the bench after his impressive displays since joining the club as Francis Coquelin comes back into the team. Alex Iwobi is meanwhile back from injury and is named among the substitutes.

So there are debuts for Arsenal's two new signings today as German centre-half Shkodran Mustafi starts alongside birthday boy Laurent Koscielny in the Gunners defence. Lucas Perez, also celebrating his birthday, gets the nod up front with Olivier Giroud on the bench and Alexis Sanchez rested with their game against PSG in midweek in mind.

Southampton subs: McCarthy, Yoshida, Targett, Hojbjerg, Ward-Prowse, Long, Austin.

Arsenal subs: Ospina, Holding, Elneny, Xhaka, Iwobi, Alexis, Giroud.

Southampton starting XI: Forster, Cedric, Fonte, van Dijk, Bertrand, Clasie, Romeu, Davis, Tadic, Redmond, Rodriguez.

Arsenal starting XI: Cech, Bellerin, Mustafi, Koscielny, Monreal, Coquelin, Cazorla, Walcott, Ozil, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lucas Perez.

We have the team news from the Emirates and it's safe to say that there are a few surprises in the Arsenal starting line-up for today's encounter.

For Southampton meanwhile, they will have Fraser Forster back from injury after he missed the international break with an arm problem. Ryan Bertrand could also feature in the Saints line-up for the first time this season as they travel to the Emirates on Saturday.

Arsenal were quite busy during the last week or so of the transfer window, and there could be debuts for new signings Lucas Perez and Shkodran Mustafi this afternoon, after arriving from La Liga clubs Deportivo and Valencia respectively. However it has been rumoured that Alexis Sanchez may be rested after only returning from international duty late in the week. Alex Iwobi is fit though after injury and is set to be included in the squad.

Matches between the two sides since Southampton returned to the Premier League four years ago have been interesting, with the each side winning just three of nine meetings since 2012. There have meanwhile been three draws during that time in the league. Most notably last season was the Saints' incredible 4-0 win over the Gunners at St Mary's whilst this fixture last season finished 0-0. Here's hoping for a better encounter this around then.

Much to everyone's delight, the Premier League is back this weekend, after a short intermission for the latest international break. Arsenal will be aiming to claim their first home points of the season whilst Southampton will be looking for their first win of the 2016/17 season under new manager Claude Puel
