Arsenal stand-in skipper Laurent Koscielny is a doubt for the club's opening Champions League match of the season against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.

Manager Arsene Wenger has said that the defender "is a little concern" and hinted that he faces a battle to be declared fit in time after suffering an eye injury in Arsenal's league win over Southampton on Saturday.

The centre-back has been excellent for the Gunners since returning to the team following an extended break given to him by Wenger for reaching the Euro 2016 final with France.

However, the news that Koscielny could be out injured is a major set-back with Arsenal facing a tough trip to Paris this week.

Koscielny scored a fantastic overhead kick for his team as he equalised in the first-half before Santi Cazorla scored a late penalty to secure all three points on what was the Frenchman's 31st birthday on Saturday.

As it happened, Koscielny was the man down in the build-up to the second Arsenal goal, as he was receiving treatment whilst there was a delay between the time the penalty was given and when Cazorla found the net.

The Arsenal manager confirmed that the fact his eye is so swollen is the main issue, but supporters will be hoping that the swelling goes down and he gets to play his part in the capital of his homeland.

Koscielny has only just established a defensive parntnership with new signing Shkodran Mustafi who arrived just before the transfer deadline, but if the former were to miss the game, Rob Holding would be expected to come back into the side after being dropped to the bench over the weekend.

It is almost certain however that Alexis Sanchez will be back in the starting line-up after being rested for the game with the Saints, after his tiring international break with Chile
