Tottenham striker Harry Kane facing up to two months out with ligament damage

Spurs hit with huge blow as their star striker suffers ligament damage.

Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that Harry Kane has indeed suffered ankle ligament damage, as was feared when he was stretchered off against Sunderland on Sunday.

Having scored what turned out to be the only goal of the game, Kane went down late on, taken off on a stretcher after being unable to continue, to the backdrop of grounds around White Hart Lane.

Sent for scans that were conducted over Monday and Tuesday, it was hoped that he'd just twisted his ankle, something that would likely keep the Tottenham Hotspur forward out for just a couple of weeks.

Poch confirms initial fears

Unfortunately, that wasn't to be the case, manager Pochettino confirming his worst fears ahead of Wednesday's EFL Cup game against Gillingham, but refused to give a time-frame for his return to the side.

"He [Kane] has injured hs ankle ligaments. We will continue to assess him every day but don't want to put a time-frame on it", said the Argentine manager.

Kane could face up to two months out

Although Pochettino didn't pledge a date for his star striker to return, experts are suggesting that the England international will most likely be out for around six-to-eight weeks, a spell on the sidelines that would see him miss a host of key fixtures for club and country.

Should Kane come back exactly two months after sustaining the injury, November 18, he'd miss games for Spurs against teams such as Manchester City and Arsenal, plus crucial Champions League ties. He'd also be ruled out of action for England, as Sam Allardyce's side come up against Malta, Slovenia and Scotland in upcoming World Cup Qualifiers.

Whilst the injury is bad news all-round for Spurs, it does give new signing Vincent Janssen a chance to come in and make his mark up front, having not yet scored competitively since his summer move from AZ Alkmaar.
