Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Erik Lamela has vowed to never stop running for his team's cause, even during periods of games where things aren't going as he wishes on the ball.
Lamela has been going through a rich vein of form recently, having established himself as one of the first names on the team sheet in Mauricio Pochettino's starting XI, and a big part of that has been through his incredible work ethic.
Playing on the right wing, Lamela's attacking position allows him to help lead Pochettino's press from the front, but it's his quality on the ball that's been attracting attention this season, with two goals and three assists in all competition's so far.
Lamela won't stop running
However, form is temporary, and whilst Lamela's class may well be permanent, a drop off is always possible. Speaking about the possibility of that happening, the Argentinean said "I try to do my best every game and if I can’t always play well, I try to run and run and always help the team," adding that the reason for this is because "we always need to show that we want to win".
Lamela's upturn in fortunes has been extremely noticeable in the past 18 months, and he's one of the final members remaining at the club of the seven that joined following Gareth Bale's sale to Real Madrid in 2013.
Winger has overcome tough start to life at Spurs
He endured an extremely difficult start to life in North London, struggling for form and fitness as many cast doubt over the £30million fee that Spurs paid for him.
The winger said as much, admitting "at the beginning it was very tough", going on to give reasons for this as it being "another style of football, another country, another language".
Lamela also spoke about his long periods out injured, but stated "that's football, you need to be strong".
He was strong, and is now reaping the benefits. "I feel well now. I feel good at the training ground and after training, I go home and it feels like home. That’s important. I’m always focused. I’m happy and that helps on the pitch."
