Thanks for you company this evening, I've been your host Neil Leverett. You can follow me @the91stneil. In the meantime I'll see you again. Bye for now!

The two will once again do battle in a fortnight at St. Marys, with revenge on the menu.

The result puts the hosts on the board, but still behind The Saints in Group K by a point.

It's difficult to know how Southampton have lost that. Inter scored from their only effort on target, as the visitors wasted a hatful of chances and dominance in possession. In the end it was Samir Handanovic who frustrated Claude Puels's men in the Inter goal.

FULL TIME Inter Milan 1-0 Southampton

94' CLOSE. Oooof so close. van Dijk nods down to Ward-Prowse on the edge of the area. The midfielder adjust shoots, but inches wide of the post.

93' They come again. But both van Dijk and Austin are offside.

90+2' Another corner for Southampton..nothing doing and Perisic races down the field, into the Saints' defensive zone.

STOPPAGE TIME: 5 mins

Substitution: Yuto Nagatomo replaced by Danilo D'Ambrosio

88' CHANCE. Two chances come in quick succession. From a corner, Charlie Austin's header is saved smartly by Handanovic. Then, seconds later, a melee in the area drops to Austin once more but his shot is parried by the Slovenian. Handanovic is having one of those nights.

87' The visitors are knocking. Aerial assault via the kitchen sink on tap...

Substitution: Eder replaced by Ivan Perisic

Five minutes to play: Can Southampton grab a leveller?

81' CHANCE. Amidst a flurry of activity, Southampton win a free-kick. The delivery finds Virgil van Dijk, unmarked but from 6 yards out, can only side-foot his shot at Handanovic. Is it going to be the Saints' night?

Substitution: Antonio Candreva replaced by Cristian Ansaldi: Inter are shutting up shop as the Inter's goalman trudges off.

Substitution: Jay Rodriguez replaced by Steven Davis: Last throw of the dice for Claude Puel.

RED CARD: Marcelo Brozovic: The Croatian's second yellow sees the hosts reduced to 10 men for the last 12 minutes.

74' The Saints' club-record summer signing makes his debut.

Substitution: Dusan Tadic replaced by Sofiane Boufal.

72' The Icardi does get free and is blocked by Martina. From the corner, Murillo nods over.

70' Southampton are wobbling. Finally the home fans can be heard as Inter seek to double their lead. Goalscorer Candreva's curling delivery is too far from the waiting Icardi.

68' That lead is scarcely deserved, but so is football. What response have the visitors got?

Out of nothing, Inter are ahead. After a clever run down the left channel, former Magpie Davide Santon slips a firm pass into the area. His cut back finds Antonio Candreva who crashes a left-footed drive past Fraser Forster and into the top corner.

GOAL! Inter Milan 1-0 Southampton: Antonio Candreva

64' The second half is slowly becoming a midfield war of attrition. Both sides try to keep the ball but failing to create anything particularly meaningful.

30 mins to play: An hour gone in Milan. Still goalless, but better fare.

58' Minutes later, Handanovic is then forced into a low save to stop Tadic's rasping shot. Held comfortably.

55' CLOSE. Back come the Saints. A through ball finds Austin and with his first touch cracks an effort on goal, which flies narrowly wide of Handanovic's goal.

53' CHANCE. Icardi's well publicized spat with the club's ultras at Inter and the forward has not endeared himself here. On finding space on the left of the area, the Argentine blazes high and wide.

51' NO GOAL. From the following corner, Rodriguez is ajudged to have committed a foul in competing for the ball, as he heads into the Inter net. 6,000 fans erupt at the far end but theirt joy is short-lived.

50' Terrific defending by Miranda. Cuco Martina's ball finds Rodriguez and baring down on goal from wide, is closed out by the Brazilian.

Substitution: Shane Long replaced by Charlie Austin.

47' Long's night is indeed at an end. Saints reduced to 10 men temporarily.

46' Shane Long could have a problem here. Looks like a hamstring...The red-hot Charlie Austin is being readied.

KICK OFF: We are under way for the Second Half. No changes.

I'm off for a Calzone. See you in a bit.

Claude Puel's men have dominated large periods of the first half, with James Ward-Prowse having come closest to breaking the deadlock. The hosts have shown signs of life in the closing stages of that half and despite their apparent disinterest, still cannot be counted out.

HALF TIME: Inter Milan 0-0 Southampton

Stoppage time: Well, there is none....

44' We are inching towards stoppage time, as another Eder shot is driven well wide.

40' CLOSE. A rare opening for Inter finds a bouncing ball drop to the feet of Eder, with the Italian's shot inches wide of Forster's right-hand post. The Saints keeper probably had it covered, mind.

37' CHANCE. Goodness me. Tadic and Martina have linked up superbly this opening period. The man from Curacao chips a neat ball for Long and the Irishman's flick-on header is agonisingly close to the boot of the lunging Jay Rodriguez. Ooof.

32' The game is coming to life after half an hour in Milan. This time it is Inter who break at pace. Eder's ball into the area is inviting but is well blocked by Maya Yoshida.

29' CLOSE. And another. Southampton getting huge joy down the right hand side. It's Martina again who cuts a ball back into the path of Ward-Prowse, but the midfielder's shot is rising and narrowly over the bar. Second later, Martina has his own effort just wide of Handanovic's far upright.

28' CHANCE. From Marcelo Brozovic's spurned delivery, Southampton counter at pace. Rodriguez scampers forward and Sam McQueen whips a delicious ball toward the Saints man. Samir Handanovic races across and just does enough as Rodriguez hits the deck, as the ball screws goalward and is cleared by Jeison Murillo.

26' Davide Santon wins a free kick 35 yards out. A rare opening?

24' Further evidence on show of just how Hapoel Be'er Sheva won comfortably 2-0 here last month. There seems no appetite for this game for the Italians. Less the San Siro more St Marys, as the beying fans chant out the club's trademark ditty.

21' The hosts are being out-muscled in midfield. Southampton get another set-piece opportunity. James Ward-Prowse whips a curling beauty into the area, but Virgil van Dijk can't quite latch onto it.

19' Good play this time. Martina again clips a ball to the far post but Rodriguez' header over is academic following a foul. Fantastic support for Southampton tonight, by the way. Almost 6,000 have travelled from the South coast of England.

17' And now it is the Saints who are scrappy. Martina and Tadic dovetail on the right hand side, but the searching pass through the middle is wayward. Wonder how much Claude Puel is missing Nathan Redmond in Italy?

14' Hmm. The game is just fizzing a little, threatening to spark into life. Another long ball forward is wasted by the Nerazzurri. At the other end, Shane Long's pace is beginning to trouble the home defence, particularly a rather out-of-sorts Miranda.

12' Dusan Tadic's driven effort is straight at the wall.

11' Oriel Romeu is felled outside the area. Free Kick.

7' Real opening for Southampton. Miranda is caught out by a lofted ball over the top and Jay Rodriguez is galloping. Having beaten the Brazilian once, Rodriguez then hesitates and checks, allowing Miranda to recover. Ring rust for the England man, understandably.

6' Southampton are clearly intent on the probe this evening. The Saints continue to build from the back.

3' After a cagey start, a poor backpass from Cuco Martina leaves Fraser Forster stranded. To Forster's credit the Saints keeper closes the angle and Mauro Icardi cannot quite capitalize. The visitors escape.

KICK OFF: we are under way in Milan.

The players are in the tunnel..

A former European giant, Inter have a recent times fallen on hard times. The Saints are keen on inflicting further misery on a side and manager, who are winless in a month.

In contrast, Claude Puel's men sit top of the standings on goal difference and are unbeaten in the last seven in all competitions.

After such an injection of money, Ronald de Boer has been forced into omitting his star signings of the ilk of Joao Mario from his Europa League squad to adhere to FIFA fair play.

For Internazionale, a summer of new investment from Suning Holdings is yet to bare fruit. The Italians are struggling domestically and sit bottom of Group K in the Europa League without a single point.

Southampton make six changes. Jose Fonte and Charlie Austin drop to the bench as Maya Yoshida and Shane Long come in.

With Matt Targett absent, Sam McQueen makes his first start for the Saints at left-back.

Nathan Redmond was not in the travelling squad, so Jay Rodriguez fills in up front. In their other two changes, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and James Ward-Prowse are preferred to Jordi Clasie and Steven Davis in central midfield.

Summer signing from Lyon Sofiane Boufal, is named on The Saints bench for the first time having overcome injury

Inter Milan name two former Premier League men in their line up. Gary Medel who played for Cardiff City and former Newcastle United left-back Davide Santon will face familiar foes.

After a public falling out with the fans in Milan, Mauro Icardi starts up front for Inter.

Southampton: Forster, Martina, Yoshida, van Dijk, McQueen, Højbjerg, Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Rodriguez, Tadic, Long. Subs: Clasie, Fonte, Davis, Austin, McCarthy, Boufal, Stephens.

Inter Milan: Handanovic, Nagatomo, Miranda, Murillo, Santon, Gnokouri, Medel, Brozovic, Candreva, Icardi, Eder. Subs: Palacio, Ansaldi, Banega, Carizzo, D'Ambrosio, Perisic, Yao Guy.

without further ado the team news from Milan..

And what a tasty morsel we have in store for you....Inter Milan. Southampton. The Giuseppe Meazza. The San Siro to you and I.

Good evening boys and girls! I am indeed your host for this early Thursday evening. You can follow me on twitter @the91stneil

I now leave you in the capable hands of Neil Leverett, who will take you through tomorrow's live action!

The two sides have never faced each other in their history, which will make tomorrow's clash even more interesting.

The big story regarding Inter Milan this week has been the fall-out between captain Mauro Icardi and the club's ultras. The Argentinian released his autobiography lately and relived a story of his falling out with a section of supporters. This could be a huge distraction for Inter, as many of the fans at the San Siro will not be happy to see him retain the captain's armband.

Sam McQueen made his Southampton debut on Sunday off the bench and due to the current injuries at the back, the youngster may get another chance to shine against even bigger opposition. If his debut is anything to go by, he may be the next big academy product to come from the South Coast.

Other players also find themselves in fine form for Southampton at the moment. Nathan Redmond has relished playing behind a centre forward and has helped himself to a few goals in recent weeks.

Sunday's 3-1 win over Burnley was impressive. Charlie Austin got on the scoresheet yet again to continue his hot streak in front of goal. Despite this, Claude Puel has said he may not start the attacker against Inter, as he looks to rotate his squad.

As for the Saints, they are on a roll at present, with five wins in their last seven games, alongside two draws. They have not conceded a goal in those seven matches.

The Nerazzurri beat Juventus last month but have failed to win any of their last four in all competitions. Coach Frank De Boer will be hoping tomorrow's fixture can spur a change in fortunes.

The match looks set to be a cracker with both sides in different veins of form in the competition. Southampton are yet to taste defeat in this year's competition, whilst Milan are without a win, after two poor showings in the last month.

Hi I'm Aaron Stokes and I'll be taking through the pre-match information, stats and talking points before Southampton's monster clash with Inter Milan in the Europa League group stage.
