Watford defender Younes Kaboul thinks the Hornets should take inspiration from current Premier League champions Leicester City.
The Hornets are gunning for a place in the top-10 this season, and Saturday’s 1-0 win over Middlesbrough saw Walter Mazzarri’s side edge into the top half.
Jose Holebas’ stunning strike was enough to decide a lacklustre game, but the win will bring confidence to the side.
Watford can take inspiration from Leicester
Last season, Watford finished 13th, and Kaboul thinks the side can take some encouragement from the Foxes to help them build on last season’s finish.
Mazzarri took over this summer from Quique Sanchez Flores, and the boss said that the team would be taking each game as it comes, and he won’t be setting any targets.
“Yes, because we have got quality in the group,” Kaboul told the Watford Observer.
“Leicester proved last season anything can win the Premier League – I’m not talking about this, of course, but that shows you the mentality now of other teams.”
The defender thinks any team from “out of the top four, five, maybe even six” can beat anyone on their day.
Second season up is always harder
Kaboul, who signed from Sunderland in the summer, believes the Vicarage Road outfit can challenge anyone in the league.
The 30-year-old central defender is a strong believer that the Hornets can now build upon the club’s achievement’s last season.
He said: “Well, it depends. The first season, you always get that spark because it’s new, bring back in the Premier League, so last season, the club did very well.
“The target this season is to do even better if possible; if not, to be like last season. But we always look to do better.”
The former Sunderland defender said a top-half finish this season would be “perfect for the club”.
