Sean Dyche cut a happy figure after Scott Arfield's last minute winner against Everton but admitted his side had to work hard combined with an element of luck.

"To bounce back with a solid performance was great"

Dyche believed that his side did get an element of luck, explaining “there have been a few times this season when things have gone against us, and you like to think over a season you get a bit of balance". However he also suggested that his players worked hard for their win. "I think we’ve had to earn that today".

The manager was also quick to praise his side's performance “To bounce back from last week with a solid performance was great and I like the authenticity of the group".

He encouraged his team to embrace "the big challenge" and fight for their place in the league this season. “We’re going to have to fight for every inch we get, we’re going to have to be organised and diligent and do our jobs and still provide the quality need to win a match”.

"There is life beyond the initial eleven"

Dyche was also full of praise for the finishing of goalscorers Sam Vokes and Scott Arfield. "I thought the two goals were outstanding". Vokes opened the scoring before half-time. "We got lucky in the end for the first after they got a foot in and the keeper spoils it before Vokesy does his job, but the build-up play before that was excellent play". Arfield completed the scoring with a last minute winner. "The second is a wonderful finish after Johann’s effort which was worthy of a goal in itself".

The manager was also full of praise for the entire squad after several key players were unavailable for this recent fixture. He explained "it was terrific for the players to get on with it and put in a performance", before announcing his satisfaction for their start to the season. "There is life beyond the initial eleven and we were at the end of our squad today, so I am really pleased with what we are doing”.
