Southampton's summer signing Nathan Redmond has insisted that he is still adapting to his new role as a frontman in Claude Puel’s strategy.
Redmond is used to being out wide on the wing, where he made a name for himself at Birmingham City, Norwich City and for the England U21’s.
Steady Pace
Redmond has netted in the last two games for the Saints, one in the home win against Burnley and the opener in the impressive display which saw the South Coast outfit draw 1-1 at Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
After completing his £10M move to the South Coast from the relegated Canaries, he was sat down by new boss Puel and told that his system had no places for any wide players and ‘I would have to convert to a striker’.
'I'm learning a new position. I'm playing up front,' Redmond said.
He has insisted that the pressure of being benched if he doesn’t convert to a striker is enough to spur him on to get used to his new position.
Rome wasn't built in a day
The 22-year-old is slowly taking to the striker role with three goals in nine starts, and says he is learning daily and during the games and claims 'Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will I’.
Southampton host Sunderland in the fourth round of the League Cup on Wednesday night before they play fourth-placed Chelsea at home on Sunday.
