Bournemouth midfielder Harry Arter has been called-up to the Republic of Ireland national side, with his name in the provisional squad, as the men in green will lock horns with Austria in the FIFA World Cup 2018 Qualifying Round clash.

Arter, who has made only three appearances for the national side so far in his career, was hailed as being one of the best players in the Premier League this season by former Ireland international and Everton star Kevin Kilbane.

O'Kane gets a call-up too.

Apart from the 26-year-old Arter, Ireland coach Martin O'Neill handed the first international call-ups to Dundalk duo Daryl Horgan and Andy Boyle, who have impressed a lot for the Irish club this season.

As many as five goalkeepers have been called up to provisional side, with the squad yet to shorten just days before the game in Vienna. Seamus Coleman, who scored on his previous appearances for the Irish, has been selected and his Everton team-mate James McCarthy made the list too.

Former Cherry Eunan O'Kane too has earned a call-up following his move to Elland Road this past summer, as the 26-year-old looks to ressurect his career. Aberdeen forward Adam Rooney has been called up to the side, as the 28-year-old has enjoyed a good start to his league season.

A deserved call-up for Arter

Bournemouth's standout performer this season, alongside defender Steve Cook, Arter has made ten appearances, assisting twice and coming up with performances worthy of a special mention in almost every game that Bournemouth have played.

It was his showing against title-chasing Spurs that caught the eye of a majority of fans and experts alike, while he was the man of the match during the Cherries' 1-0 triumph over Ronald Koeman's Everton.

The loss to Middlesbrough at Riverside was disappointing though, but Bournemouth will host rock bottom Sunderland at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday, with a view of coming back to winning ways.
