Munich continue to climb, Wolfsburg and Frankfurt cancel each other out as Potsdam are dealt their first loss, Jena and Hoffenheim both claimed narrow wins with Essen and Sand split the points.

Munich make it three from three as the competition draw

Bayern München registered their third successive win at home to MSV Duisburg during Saturday’s lone match, the Bavarians took the lead late in the first-half, Vivianne Miedema knocking the ball past Lena Nuding at close range following Verena Faißt’s searching cross. The visitors, who were not without their chances, equalised early in the second-half when Lara Heß pounced on some slopping defending to fire the ball past Tinja-Riikka Korpela from outside the box but inevitably succumbed late in the game despite some steely defending throughout.

Gina Lewandowski took advantage of a lucky deflection to race onto a lose ball and fire it low past Nuding before Melanie Behringer sealed the win five minutes from time with a trademark free kick, a sublime finish from a deadball situation. Despite the loss, the signs remain positive for Duisburg who continue to grow and adapt each week.

Despite a fine number of chances for both, neither VfL Wolfsburg nor FFC Frankfurt could find the golden touch last weekend and were forced to settle for a point a piece, the bigger news to come out of the game, Caroline Graham Hansen’s nasty second-half injury which will see her sit out the rest of 2016.

Meanwhile SGS Essen dropped down to fifth with a 1-1 draw against SC Sand, with little to separate the two throughout the first-half the hosts drew first blood three minutes before the break as Lea Schüller headed Irini Ioannidou’s lofted ball over an advancing Carina Schlüter. Sand were quick to respond, restoring parity just one minute later when Slovakian international Dominika Škorvánková sent the ball past Lisa Weiß, the two sides continued to create but had to settle for a point each come the full-time whistle.

Freiburg, Jena and Hoffenheim all come out on top

Table-toppers, Turbine Potsdam were handed their first loss of the year away to SC Freiburg, Lina Magull gave the hosts the advantage on the half-hour, pulling off a first-rate finish as she tumbled to the ground, the ball tucked past Lisa Schmitz at her near post.

The German international on hand to double the advantage five minutes after the break with an inch perfect free kick, the ball curled expertly around the wall and into Schmitz’ top corner. Elise Kellond-Knight’s clinical free kick late in the second-half nothing but a consolation for the visitors who struggled to find their best against a well organised Freiburg.

Elsewhere in the league, Amber Hearn earned USV Jena a narrow 1-0 win over struggling Borussia Mönchengladbach, first to react after Christina Bellinghoven had superbly kept Marie-Luise Herrmann’s spectacular effort out. The ball fell perfectly for the Kiwi who chested it down before blasting it in from three yards out. Another match to highlight Mönchengladbach’s continued improvement, Jena now up to eighth, tied with 1899 Hoffenheim who also registered their second win of the season last weekend away to Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

Leverkusen might have had the better spells during the game but West German team remained unable to take any of their chances and fell away during the second-half, the game settled when Fabienne Dongus drifted behind the defence to latch onto a through ball and fire past Anna Klink in the 66 minute.
