Everton loan report: Drawing troubles for on-loan Blues

A recap of Everton’s players who are out on loan.

Connor Bennett

It’s been a tough time for Everton’s players out on loan, as they’ve struggled to find chances and the back of the net.

The Blues currently have five players out on loan. Brendan Galloway is at West Bromwich Albion, Luke Garbutt is at Wigan Athletic, Russell Griffiths is with Cheltenham Town, Aiden McGeady is at Preston North End and Shani Tarashaj is in Germany with Eintracht Frankfurt

Conor Grant had been out on loan but had his loan spell at Ipswich Town cut short. He is expected to go out on loan again in January

Of those five out on loan, only Galloway, Garbutt and McGeady have made their mark on the first team.

The talented Tarashaj has had some success with Frankfurt, finding the net once in four appearances. He is expected to be around Ronald Koeman’s first team in some capacity next campaign but the forward missed this week’s win over Werder Bremen through injury.

Brendan Galloway

Out on loan at West Bromwich Albion, it had been expected by many that Galloway would start to show more glimpses of his promise, especially in defence but it’s tough for him under Tony Pulis. The promising defender has found his chances limited and when he’s had a chance to play, he’s been hit and miss.

At times, he’s looked like one of the Baggies better players but his mistake against West Ham United where he gave away a penalty has seen him struggle to regain his starting spot. Galloway sat out the Baggies impressive 4-0 win against Burnley on Monday night.

There has been plenty of talk of him returning to Goodison Park in January if the Blues see fit to cancel the loan agreement. Galloway would be a welcome body in the Everton squad but would have other offers to go back out on loan if he wishes.

Luke Garbutt

Luke Garbutt made the short trip across to Wigan late in the summer transfer window for his loan spell. He is only scheduled to be there until the beginning of January, but could find his deal extended if the Latics need him.

This weekend, he was brought on as a first half substitute during their 0-0 draw with Barnsley at Oakwell

Aiden McGeady

The Republic of Ireland international made his way to Preston on a season-long loan during the summer window. His contract expires next summer and McGeady could find himself on the chopping block at Goodison Park if Everton receive the right offer.

This weekend he returned from Ireland duty to play a full 90 minutes against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Deepdale.

Like Garbutt and Wigan, the game finished 0-0 as McGeady was unable to make a mark on the game.
