Nottingham Forest made their first signing of the summer on Saturday as Jason Cummings joined from Hibernian for an undisclosed fee as he signed a three-year deal at the club.

A promising young goalscorer

There is no doubt that the 21-year-old striker has an impressive goalscoring record in his career so far. During his four-year spell at Hibernian, he scored 55 goals in 114 appearances which is not a bad return for any striker.

Last season he managed to find the back of the net 23 times in 39 appearances for Hibs as he played a key role in them winning promotion back to the Scottish Premier League as they won the Scottish Championship title.

His departure has left many Hibs fans disappointed as it was hoped he could help them progress further on their return to the SPL next season. He was clearly rated highly by the club as he only signed a new four-year contract at the club just last July.

Adds to Forest's attacking options

A majority of Forest supporters have responded positively to the addition of Cummings, a player-manager Mark Warburton clearly had extensive knowledge on. Cummings actually scored on several occasions against Warburton whilst he was manager of Rangers

Cummings is now the fourth striker on Forest's books with Britt Assombalonga, Ben Brereton and Apostolos Vellios all already at The City Ground ahead of next season. However, there have been doubts about Assombalonga's future in particular with new Middlesbrough manager Gary Monk said to be interested in acquiring the striker's services for next season.

Nicholas Randall was appointed as new chairman of the club following the takeover of Evangelos Marinakis. He has already stated that 'tough decisions' will have to be made following the disastrous five-year tenure of previous owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi. This may involve selling a star asset such as Assombalonga if a bid comes in which is too good to turn down. However, Forest are likely to want to avoid selling him to a Championship rival, and are more likely to sell to a Premier League outfit.

Looking forward to getting started

Cummings made no secret of the fact that Warburton was a massive factor in him deciding to join the club. He told Forest's official website: "It is a massive club and I played against the manager's team a couple of years ago and I like the way they played."

He is looking forward to playing for Forest as the spearhead of their attractive style of football and to scoring plenty of goals. He added: "I want to play football and score goals and the way that the manager's teams play, they normally create a lot of chances so I feel that I am in the right team to create chances and hopefully I can get a few goals."
