Laurent Depoitre has been added to the long list of players signed by David Wagner ahead of the start of Huddersfield Town's first season in the Premier League, the former FC Porto striker has joined the Terriers for a fee of £3.5million.

The 28 year old signed a two-year-deal with an option of extending his contract for a further year.

Depoitre has worked under Wagner before

Before moving to Porto in 2016, Depoitre worked for now Huddersfield manager David Wagner at Belgium side K.A.A Gent, in which he scored 30 goals in 90 games, helping the side reach the last 16 of the Champions League, a clear reason why Depoitre was an obvious choice for Wagner to sign upon hearing that he was available.

The Huddersfield boss has commented on his new signing, first claiming that he is "a proper striker" before adding  "He scores goals and is a real worker too, so he will fit the 'Terriers Identity' very well," clearly showing that he is the perfect man to lead the line in the clubs first season in England's top flight.

Depoitre will add experience to a very young Huddersfield front line.

Depoitre will add much needed fire power

During the course of a very successful season for Huddersfield Town, in which they beat Reading in the Championship Play-off Final to earn a place in the big time, one of David Wagner's few problems was having an out and out goal scorer, somebody to put the ball in the back of the net on a regular occasion as Town's top scorer, Elias Kachunga, only chipped in with 13 goals in all competitions. The Terriers boss will be hoping that Depoitre will be his man to do this.

Despite having a disappointing spell in Liga NOS, it is undoubted that the Belgian forward proved he knows where the net is in his time playing in the Belgian First Division A, and if the former Porto number nine can manage to find his feet again in the Premier League, it will be a huge boost to their hopes of surviving in the top flight.
