Brighton & Hove Albion managed to get back on track on Boxing Day with a 1-1 draw at home to Arsenal.

Arsenal took the lead through a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the sixth minute with a great finish.

Jurgen Locadia levelled the game ten minutes before half-time, with a good finish after getting in behind the Arsenal defence.

Arsenal had the first chance of the match in the second minute when Alexandre Lacazette picked up the ball 30 yards, but his deflected effort was comfortable for Matthew Ryan.

In the third minute, Matteo Guendouzi played in Aubameyang and his chipped effort was well tipped over the bar by Ryan.

Arsenal took the lead in the 6th minute, when Davy Propper lost the ball in the box and Lacazette twists and turns, before laying the ball off to Aubameyang who curls the ball into the top right corner.

Brighton had their first shot on target in the 11th minute when Propper turned about 25 yards out, which was comfortable for Bernd Leno.

There was a controversial moment in the 25th minute when Glenn Murray tapped in after Leno, looked to have fumbled, but referee Anthony Taylor ruled it out for a foul.

In the 29th minute, Solly March picked up the ball on the right and played it along the floor to Murray, but his effort was comfortable for Leno.

Aubameyang had a great chance to make it 2-0 when Lucas Torreira's ball in behind found the striker and his effort was well tipped away by Ryan.

Brighton equalised in the 34th minute when Propper played a ball from the edge of his box over the top and Stephen Lichtsteiner headed it into the path of Locadia, who put it past the onrushing Leno and tapped into an empty net.

Martin Montoya's cross from the right found Murray, but his header went over the bar just before the half-time whistle.

In the 49th minute, March picked up the ball and hit an effort from outside the box, which Leno had to make a good save to keep out.

Propper then went close to putting The Seagulls ahead when he met March's cross but headed just wide of the post.

Propper had another glorious chance in the 58th minute when Locadia played the ball to him on the edge of the box and his effort was blocked and fell back to him in line with the penalty spot, but he fired just past the post.

As the clock was ticking down, March then had a great chance as Dale Stephens played the ball in behind and March tried to dink Leno, but put his effort well over the bar.

Locadia then had a great chance to give Albion the lead when Stephens played it out to him on the left and he did a stepover and then fired past the post.

Takeaways from the game

Brighton had the beating of Arsenal's full-backs

One area where Brighton got a huge amount of joy throughout the game was in the wide areas, as both Locadia and March had the beating of Lichtsteiner and Sead Kolasinac.

A number of chances came from March and Locadia making behind the full-backs and this allowed them the time to lift their head up and pick a pass or a cross into the box.

This was how the disallowed goal for Brighton came about, through Montoya getting in behind and having time to look up and pick out Murray.

Locadia starting to show why Brighton paid big to sign him

One player who is starting to show why Brighton paid big to sign him from PSV  last season.

The Dutch striker was a constant threat from the left with his pace and his runs in behind and inside of the full-back.

Locadia was also very calm on the ball and made some good passes.

He got a well-deserved goal in the first half after running onto Propper's ball over the top and calmly knocking the ball past Leno, before tapping into an empty net.

Locadia was making his second consecutive start in the Premier League this season after impressing in the defeat to Bournemouth last weekend.

Locadia also deservedly got the sponsors man of the match for his performance.

The Dutchman was then replaced with five minutes to go by Anthony Knockaert.
