Everton have opened up initial talks with Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva, who will be available on a free transfer this summer.

It was confirmed yesterday, by PSG sporting director Leonardo Araújo, that both Silva and forward Edinson Cavani will be leaving the French champions when their contracts run out.

Brazil international Silva has been with the Parisians since 2012, when he signed from Italian giant's AC Milan, and went on to make over 200 appearances for the club, winning the Ligue 1 title in all but one of his seasons in the French capital.

Ancelotti and Everton will target Silva this summer

Everton have made their intentions clear over the last few seasons. They want progress, hence the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti, whose former clubs include Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Milan.

The Italian boss could play a big factor in trying to lure Silva to Goodison Park since the pair have previously worked together at PSG. The Brazilian is a born winner and even at the age of 35, the addition of the veteran centre-back would be a big move for the Toffees.

Silva’s former club Milan are said to also be in the running for the defender, but there will be interest from all across the continent for a player of his calibre – a player that also won 10 domestic cup competitions with PSG.

The defender will also not play against for PSG after the 2019-20 Ligue 1 campaign was brought to an end in April due to the coronavirus pandemic, with Silva and the team being crowned champions for the third consecutive season.
