On its return to our screens, this was. Premier League football at its very best... as far as the last five minutes went, at least.

A game of chances few and far between livened up in the closing stages, as two impressive goals from Ben Chilwell and Craig Dawson respectively see the honours shared at full-time.

On reflection, this will probably be considered a fair result by both sides.

93' It's an equaliser! The ball bounces in the Leicester area following a corner, and centre-back Craig Dawson produces a spectacular overhead kick past the flailing Schmeichel.

An enthralling end to the match here.

91' Have I spoken too soon? There will be five minutes of added time, and Watford have the ball in the attacking third.
14:20a year ago

90' The deadlock is broken in the final minute!
Gray switches play to Chilwell on the left, and the full-back smashes the ball past a helpless Foster to give his side the three points.

What a goal, and what a way to win the match for the visitors.

75' How have Leicester not scored!?

The hosts are on the ropes here.

13:51a year ago
61' Maddison supplies an inch-perfect free-kick onto the head of Soyuncu - the defender was probably offside anyway, but he really should have converted that chance.
13:41a year ago

Watford have started this half very brightly indeed.

Brendan Rodgers quotes

“We still anticipate and prepare for a tough game. The game might have changed in the stands, but it won’t on the pitch.

“They’ve got good players, and they, like ourselves, are fighting for every result. It will be a tough game and that’s what we’re preparing for.

“I don’t think ant team will be at their top level in the first game, purely because of fitness and the length of time we’ve had to prepare.”

Nigel Pearson quotes

“They’ve had a very, very good season so far. They have a good squad of players, they’re a very stable football club with a manager with an awful lot of ambition and ability.

“We know what they’re about, we know they are talented individuals but they are a very effective team as well and the very fact they are where they are in the league at the moment speaks volumes.

“It’s a tough game, but the emphasis for us at the moment is our own situation, our own circumstances and that’s what it’s about, concentrating on how we can best prepare ourselves to try and win this game.”

Leicester team news

Ayoze Pérez and Ryan Bennett both passed late fitness tests, but Dennis Praet will be assessed having struggled with a tight calf.

Manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed that Harvey Barnes will be fit to play following a knee injury, though the Foxes remain without Ricardo Pereira and Daniel Amartey.

23:08a year ago

Watford team news

Captain Troy Deeney should feature in some capacity on Saturday in spite of a later return to training.

Gerard Deulofeu, Daryl Janmaat and Isaac Success all remain confirmed absentees for the rest of 2019/20, but Pearson otherwise has a fit squad to pick from.

Match facts

The last three league meetings at Vicarage Road all ended in a 2-1 victory for Watford.

All of the 10 Premier League points picked up by the Hornets against Leicester have been won on home turf.

The Foxes have scored in all of the 19 top-flight meetings between the two sides.

23:08a year ago

Last meeting

The most recent encounter between the two sides took place in October, when the King Power Stadium oversaw a 2-0 win for Leicester.

To their credit, Watford — who had just parted ways with Quique Sánchez Flores and were under the temporary management of Hayden Mullins — put in a valiant performance, but whimpered to their 9th defeat of the season at the hands of the ruthless Foxes, with Jamie Vardy and James Maddison claiming the goals.

Leicester's form

Rekindling some of the spirit which guided them to the title in 2016, the Foxes have so far proven to be the underdogs constantly refusing to back down, and the chances of Champions League football being held at the King Power Stadium next season grow ever more strong.

Leicester struggled in February, winning none of their games and losing two — including a 1-0 defeat to bottom-of-the-table Norwich City — but they got back on track with a 4-0 victory over Aston Villa in their last Premier League outing, and will hope to replicate the form shown in said game here.

Leicester currently sit 3rd in the Premier League table.

Watford's form

Prior to the break, the Hornets had been enjoying a resurgence under the guidance of head coach Nigel Pearson who, since taking over in December, has worked something of a miracle to give the club a fighting chance of survival.

The highlight of Watford’s season was also one of the moments of the entire league campaign thus far; the 3-0 cruise past champions-elect Liverpool at the end of February could well prove to be the difference between that hazardous dotted line above the bottom three, though defeat to Crystal Palace in their most recent league fixture was an unwanted setback.

Watford currently sit 17th in the Premier League table.

The Premier League returns

Following a three-month hiatus courtesy of the COVID-19 pandemic, England’s top-flight is back in action.

The evenings of Wednesday and Friday produced enthralling matches, the results of which could bear significance for the two sides here, but what will come of Saturday afternoon’s tie between Watford and Leicester at Vicarage Road?
