After picking up a point at Tottenham on Friday, Manchester United host Sheffield United on Wednesday at Old Trafford

The Red Devils have only lost once in front of their own fans this season since August so it will be a welcome return to the Theatre of Dreams for Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s side.

However, this time around those fans will not be in their seats and will instead be watching from the comfort of their own homes due to the season finishing behind closed doors. This may provide Sheffield United with a little bit of hope.

Lifelong fans can no longer attend games

One of those fans is Manchester United season ticket holder Stewart Woolley who has been going to Old Trafford since the early 70s and is already missing the atmosphere within football stadiums we are all so used to.

“It’s very disappointing. I’ve watched the games, I’ve watched the German games but I just can’t get into it without the crowds. I’ve not enjoyed it at all really, it’s just false.

"We need to be getting back to the stadium and getting back the atmosphere generated from the fans.”

Before the break, Manchester United were in exceptional form. In January, a corner was turned as the Red Devils went on an 11 game unbeaten run. After Friday’s stalemate with Tottenham, Solskjaer's side have now taken 11 points from the last 15 on offer to them.

However, with the season coming to a halt at the start of March it may be hard for teams to continue the form they were in before the break.

“United will be saying new season, fresh, let’s go down there, let’s see how it goes,” said Woolley.

“It’s not like two or three months ago I’d been saying let’s go down to Tottenham and let’s say they’re there for the taking. Let’s go and get the points.

“I don’t think it’s quite the same. I think the balance has shifted.”

A key factor in Manchester United’s January resurrection has been the form of Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese has proved to be a pivotal asset for the Red Devils since arriving in the winter transfer window and is yet to taste defeat in a red shirt.

Fernandes has lifted everybody

He (Bruno Fernandes) lifted everybody," Woolley added. "You felt for the first time in five or six years, you felt, we can do something here.

“We were one nil down (against Everton) after a minute or something, don’t worry about that, this is United, we’ll get it back.

“It’s the first time I think the crowd have felt like that in these latter stages, just before lockdown.”

Stewart Woolley's prediction: Manchester United 1-0 Sheffield United
